Default 'Silver Linings Playbook'

Hmmm, not really sure what to make of this. Outside of the Fighter when has anybody's career ever been helped by appearing in a Wahlberg movie? Well I trust she won't make a bad movie, and apparently its a very hot script, so I gotta go on blind love and devotion on this one.

Quote:
I'm told that Jennifer Lawrence is in pole position for the role in The Silver Linings Playbook, the drama that David O Russell will direct with Mark Wahlberg starring. This was a coveted role that many young actresses wanted.

Among those actresses mentioned as being in the mix have been Rachel McAdams, Blake Lively, Anne Hathaway and Andrea Riseborough (Madonna's W.E.). If things go the way I'm hearing, Lawrence would shoot the film after she completes the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, which Gary Ross is directing for Lionsgate. Production on Silver Linings will begin in the fall. Based on Matthew Quick's novel, the film revolves around a former high school teacher who was institutionalized for depression and is then released into the care of his mother. He tries to win back his ex-wife but becomes involved with an eccentric neighbor with problems of her own. That is the coveted role.

Gotta agree cool that Jennifer has another movie but not happy it's with Mark. Only movie I liked him in has been the Departed. But like you said I don't think Jennifer would choose a movie that she didn't like or that sounded bad.

I loved the Departed but that is by no means a Mark Wahlberg movie, he's barely in it. Just got to hope that it's worth her abilities and our time.

Mark Wahlberg & Alec Baldwin were both great in The Departed! They made great use of what little screen time they had.
I will give honoroable mention to MW in: Fear & Invincible, only because I'm a Philly fan!

I didn't say he wasn't good, I just said that wasn't a Wahlberg movie. He's only starred in one through his entire career that I own. Fear was in Seattle, no cheating!

I saw this last night with my partner after she remarked that she was keen to see it and took the liberty of booking the tickets.

Ho hum, I thought. It'll be a distinctly average and eminently forgettable rom-com/soft drama thing. At least Jennifer Lawrence is in it, I mused, and it'll put me in the good books with SWMBO. So I can bear it. And you never know. It may be a little hidden gem.

It was. It was very good indeed, in fact, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lawrence was excellent, Bradley Cooper made a very good fist of playing a man on the leeward side of some personal problems and there were some solid performances all-round from a notable supporting cast. Robert De Niro, in particular, was superb. The chemistry between the two leads was palpable and breathed real life into an interesting story arc and it held my interest from start to finish. Not that it necessarily matters, but I'd agree with the many others who've opined that it'll probably garner a brace of Oscar nods for the leads.

I'd happily recommend it. It's definitely worth a trip to the cinema.

This is not only Russell's worst film but it is such a stale, repetitve,"I've see it all before" kind of film that does not deserve any of the buzz it is getting for awards and whatnot. I just dont get what the fuss is about. I also rarely say that a movie is too long but this movie is way too long. its gotta be like 2 hrs and 10 mins long with credits. I have seen dozens if not hundreds of films like this and this doesn't do anything new or different. Manages to be passable and got a few chuckles out of me but if this went straight to DVD I would not have been surprised.

Thumbs up

Saw this today and loved it. An easy 5/5 on the poll. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper : wow! Theatre was 80% full for the first showing @ 2:20pm on a Sunday.

Besides the great acting all-around, the writing is top notch. The 2 leads are believable as real people, and not just JL/BC up on a screen. The funny parts are as funny as they should be and the serious parts don't drag down a story that's more than a basic rom-com (family elements, therapy, etc).

In a year with this gem, and surprise films like Seven Psychopaths, I look forward to the Oscars early next year.

Saw it last night had to drive farther to find a theater playing it. I was hoping it was at least "OK" given the positive reviews.

It was absolutely superb! I rate it 4/4 stars. All the performances were great.
Moving, funny, interesting. NOT your typical romantic comedy by a long shot.

Highly recommended! It won't be in theaters much longer, not enough car chases <GRIN>

Got back from seeing this movie and just loved it! and I am in love with Jennifer Lawrence even more. For sure in my fave top 10 of the year.

It was alot funnier then I thought it be. But also had those great dramatic moments. Funny seeing them talk about the Eagles seeing how I'm from PA, but no way am I a Eagles fan. What year was this suppose to take place in 2008? They mentioned something about the Phillies in the World Series and I think that's the year they won it.

Silver linings playbook - 7/10

Very predictable hence the 7.

How ever the performances were fantastic. Don't think I have seen Bradley Cooper do better and Jennifer Lawrence was great as usual. Chris Tucker also surprised with a very small but solid performance.

I also liked how the non-committed, supposed normal people seem more messed up and crazier than Brad. His Friend is all messed up and his Dad seems to be the craziest of the lot.

I also LMAO at the dance routine

A solid Dramance which doesn't break the mold but entertains through great performances.
