Default Name calling

I know a lot of folks got revved up from the WB fiasco, but we need to stop calling every new poster that comes along with a question a troll etc... Blu-ray.com has a chance with all the exposure from yesterday to gain new viewers. We as a community need to stop screaming troll every time someone new posts. Let the Mods deal with the obvious trolls or reports them to the mods, but stop the name call postings. It makes us look like children and feeds the AVS forums saying how we are nothing but rabid Fan boys here. Not all people are as knowledgeable about the Blu ray medium, so cut some people a little slack. I only posts this I have seen a lot of people screaming Troll at new posters for it seems no good reason. Be polite until it is obvious they are here for no other reason than to troll. We need to be above the other websites or we are no better.
Just my 2 cents.
Michael

I second that.
There are a lot of people out there that really do not have the slightest clue about anything High def and I find myself educating people on a daily basis.
So I can see how a question from a new person who has not done any home work might seem like a joke.
On the other hand a troll is very easy to spot and like you say it is better just to take the high road, be better than them and just report them to a mod.
The mods here never sleep and are very swift and fair with the response they give. I know its not as fun as a good witch burning but its the right thing to do.

I'm pretty sure "diner" is a word so spell check liked it. I remember that show Alice when I was a kid. Didn't she work at Mel's Diner?

btw, I agree with your post. While I use quite a bit of dry humor, satire and sarcasm in my posts, I do try to help. Using generalizations, like never and everyone is always dangerous and likely to offend. (see what I did there?). I joined this forum because just by browsing I received informed advice. Like the old proverb says, you can catch more ants with honey than with vinegar.

Trolls are those who support the blood red discs.

oh god not another ''stop the name calling'' thread. I thought this was blu-ray.com not lets_snuggle_with_fuzzy_bunnies.com. so some people like to throw troll around WAAAAYYYYY to much. so there is the occasional asshat refference thrown out there. and maybe every now and then a captain obvious picture surfaces. golly jee willikers can't we all have some fun. why is it that its mostly the new people who whine about name calling?

(for those of you who couldn't tell I was being sarcastic)

I do think some people take it to the extreme and as this subject keeps coming up in more and more threads maybe we do need to be polite to those who are new. but we can still have some fun right? I guess we just have to put little asterix next to everything we say*

*yes I am being kind of an a$$hole but I do agree that we should be gentler with newbies.

FLO: Mel, you can kiss my grits!

Sadly, I watched this show often when I was growing up.

wow, I ask for a bit of decorum and it's called a whine. I just did not want some legit new members to get pummeled because of some HD DVD asshats. There is quite enough of that on AVS forums.

Actually, Diner was a movie from 1982, I thought your sig was a play on words trying to tell the world that you:

A. Liked the movie

and

B. Wanted to see it on Blu

lol I've been coming on this website for quite a while,, but when I decided to sign up, I was being so careful on what I'd write, cause I was scared some of you might think i was a troll. ahah you just always seem so suspicious about anyone who comes in here. i mean for gods SAKE if these "trolls" come in here, it means Blu-Ray is a threat. you should be glad there are trolls to remind everyone how big Blu-Ray is growing.

We have a newbie forum. That is a safe haven for anyone who just signed up. If people are posting in there saying anything then report it to a mod.

New users should not post negatively or it will appear to be suspicious. I mean finding a negative article and posting a link to it, that sort of thing. Saying you can't get your system going is completely different.

Use the search facility. It's there, I use it and it does work. Watch the threads and do not post immediately. Learn where to post - game things go in the game forum. Learn to know who is who a little bit. If new posters skip these basic steps then they are into the fray like the rest of us.

Lastly, that bogus thread was utter crap that should have been locked down. If someone saw this forum as a result - welcome, but that thread in a way wreaked havoc on our little community. If it happens again, I hope the mods will not allow it to continue. A new user posting rumors is something that should be locked down.
