Global demand for Blu-ray devices to reach 12 million units in 2008, says Pioneer

Rebecca Kuo, Singapore; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 2 October 2007]
Global demand for Blu-ray Disc (BD) players/recorders will increase from 5.5 million units in 2007 to 12.0 million units in 2008, according to Pioneer.

Pioneer expects to sell 50,000 BD players/recorders in 2007, mostly in North America. In view of the fast growing market in Taiwan, Pioneer will offer BD players/recorders in Taiwan with traditional Chinese language support in 2008.

This is some good news. I wonder how long it will take for some troll to spread FUD about this. I wonder if this will include the Elite players as well lower priced units.

Come on now. Don't you read the info from the only place that matters in the format war? According to everything I read all of these top notch companies like pioneer and panasonic are just spreading FUD. BD does not stand a chance. HD-DVD is way ahead of blu-ray and will be winning the war in the next few months with all of the cheap players.

Besides, how can anyone believe a company like Pioneer or Panasonic when we have Toshiba and MS telling us how things REALLY are?

Lol. That was some quintessential HD DVD fan mimicry right there

It be horrible if HD-DVD wins the format war, doesn't look as good as Blu-rays do. I just say a display today at B, might have been the TV though, cause toshiba makes crappy TVs (it was going through HDMI).
