Unhappy PS3 OS Crash

Hi,

Sometimes when i turn on my PS3 the Operating system crashes. the moving wave thing in the background stops moving and the machine won't do nothing, I am forced then to turn off power at the back of the PS3 and restart it.
this has happened a few times already so i was wondering whether anyone else has experienced anything similar when turning on their PS3 ?

I've had it crash when playing a ps2 game and i try to shut the system down from the controller, but i've never had it freeze at any other time.

I would try and reformat the HDD and reinstall the OS. Copy saved data to a USB device first.

have you updated the firmware? if you have old firmware on there it could be the problem as freezing was an issue early in the ps3 life cycle.

Yes, it should be pretty rock solid on 1.93... though mine very rarely freezes up playing a PS2 game.

note that i'm using armax. it crashes in ps2 too, but in ps3, the xmb is affected. I can't get the menu to quit the game as well. tried the off touchbutton. did not budge. finally turn the whole machine off then on. it worked

How old is your system? Is it still under warrenty? There is no reason why it should freeze up on you right when you turn it on. I could see maybe a game for PS2 doing this, or even a movie if you have not done any updates, but if your just turning it on and it is doing this, you have a problem. Call Sony service first and tell them what is going on. They should have a answer for you, or you may have to send it in.

Just my thoughts.

Since I downloaded 1.93, the only issue I have is that many times when I eject a disc, the PS3 will go back to the XMB menu, but it will just be a full screen of snow. Not like, no reception snow, but very fine, colorful snow. The only way I can fix it is to turn off the PS3 and turn it back on. Quite annoying, actually.

I'm sorry I'm not familiar with Armax? Is it an OS?

Armax is a cheat device for PS2 games. Those have a tendency not to work with PS3 games played on a PS3.

Gotcha! Reminds me of the old Game Genie for the Super Nintendo...

I would suspect an incompatibility with that device. Removing the device should stop the crashing.

you shouldn't power your system from the back until you have the red "off" light infront. Since your system sometimes freezes, put your finger on the power pad/button infront of your system and hold it there. When you hear a beep you can remove your finger. It will beep again the turn off.

The only real problem I have is an occasional glitch with the controller sticking sometimes or shuting off. Other than that nothing too major for me. I've had mine since around late November/early December when it came with Talladega Nights.

I got no choice. I tried to power off from that pad in front of the system. It did not work. So, powering off from the backl was my only action. After that it's normal

I did not use devices. I use software (ARMAX CD-ROM) from PS2, transfer it to PS3

The same happens to mine almost everyday. Shouldn't be a hdmi handshake problem since it is connected to a SONY HDTV via a SONY Receiver.
