PS3 Stand - Blu-ray Forum

I want to place my PS3 vertically to see if it help with the fan noise when upscaling standard dvd's. The problem is the only place I can put it is on top of my Velodyne sub, which is not level on the top since it slants slightly to the front. Does anyone think this might be a problem? Should I buy a stand for the PS3?

repositioning your ps3 will not rid you of any noise... i don't find it horribly loud by any means... my xbox was embarassingly loud just turned on!

my ps3 is awfully quiet. i don't even know if it's on. one morning i woke up and shocked, because i forgot to turn it off the night before

I have done a lot of research on this and found that most people don't have or notice any noise, but there are a lot of people with this specific problem. I have heard more than once, and even in this forum, that standing it vertically can help. Like I said, the ONLY time I have a problem is when upscaling standard dvd's. I can even go into the options of the PS3 when the fan kicks into it's 3rd speed and turn the upscaling off and the fan immediately gets quieter. This has been the issue with 3 different PS3's.

I wouldn't put a player on top of a sub woofer

my ps3 is very very quite. actually i dont ever think I have heard it make a sound other then the beep to eject a disc..............

Sub = large unshielded magnet.

I'm sure you can figure it out.

Subwoofers vibrate. This is a very bad idea.

I wouldn't leave a PS3 or any other device atop any speaker.
