The Darkest Hour (2011) will be released April 10, 2012, courtesy of Summit Entertainment.

The Darkest Hour stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Rachael Taylor, Max Minghella, Joel Kinnaman, Veronika Ozerova, Dato Bakhtadze, Arthur Smoljaninov, Goshen Kutzenko, Nikolai Efremov, and Georgiy Gromov. The film is directed by Chris Gorak.

When aliens attack and swiftly conquer the world by frying our electronic grid and systematically hunting down the disorganized, pathetically under-defended survivors, a small band of tourists in Moscow combine to find a way to annihilate the aliens' powerful defenses.

I wanted to see this, but my theater was only playing the 3d version so i said no thank you. Same thing with the latest Underworld movie.

Same here. I usually wait 2-3 weeks after it has been release which is when my local cinemas switches them to 2D. As for Darkest Hour, I'll give it a rental. Heard it was pretty similar to Skyline in terms of quality.

The Darkest Hour was not a good movie. It is not even worth a rental.

The story was lame. The acting was terribly poor. The characters were so annoying. The CGI looked cheap and overall this movie was a waste of time.

The 3D in this movie was not done properly either.

Simply put, this movie should not have been released in theaters or on Blu-ray. It is a made for TV movie that was just awful.

I liked it. Much better than Skyline. But then again mostly everything is.

Wow, there's a lot of unwanted hate.

The film is nowhere near the hatred level that Skyline deserves (as that and The Devil Inside are two of the worst pictures released by mainstream studios in a long time), but it isn't a good film either. The film has a lot of great ideas, but doesn't know what to do with them or how to execute them. The script is poor, but the direction is worse. The cast does what they can with the mediocre material, but at least it's still a watchable film.

To sum it up, The Darkest Hour is worth a watch when you're home on a Saturday afternoon and it ends up on SyFy.

For a film shot in 3D, it wasn't the greatest 3D I've witnessed; however, there were some moments that did look phenomenal in 3D. At least it wasn't a post-convert.

anything shot in HD should be on Blu-ray, even TV shows lol

I thought the movie looked ok, nothing spectacular but I'm interested enough for rental or buying under $5, plus Olivia Thirlby is in it.. soooooo...

this movie must've bombed for it to be announced for home video just over a month after it's theatrical release

I've read other reviews that are like yours. I will pass on this one too. Maybe catch it late night TBS if nothing else is worth watching. Thanks for the heads up.

UPDATE: I watched the previews on this from another 3D blu ray movie. It looked pretty good to me. I just hope the rest of the movie will be good as well.

Wanted to catch this in theaters, but the 3D showtimes were always before I got off work or too late when I had an early shift.

I'll check it out on Blu-ray.

Word to the wise - don't be fooled by the marketing (or the as-always terribly misleading and useless "Movie Appeal" score here), this is NOT a horror movie. It's got some elements of it towards the start, but it's really a lousy excuse for a sci-fi/action flick. Mediocre 3D, bad script, bleh acting. Not worth more than a rental, IMO.

I watched the Three Musteteers last night and saw the previews for the Darkest Hour in 3D. It looked pretty good to me. The price on that one is $23 bucks. Would be nice if the price would come down a bit on that one too. I am sure a third party would sell it lower than Amazon's price of $22.99. I'll wait to see if the price does drop before I order a copy. I got a feeling the price will drop to around $17 bucks. Then I'll jump on this one.

Skyline? You're kidding... right? Where are you guys getting your drugs from? I thought the movie sucked. But if you like it, then more power to you. I bought the movie and watched it once and then gave it to my brother. He said, "I thought brothers were suppose to love each other and watch out for each other's backs." Then he said, "That movie stanked! Big Time!" I told him, "Well, it's like when we were growing up back home, if dad was going to punish one, he was going to punish both because he knew we were up to no good." So I said to my brother, if I gotta watch something shitty, so do you!" Nuf said.

Note to the user. This wasn't to put you down or crap on your opinion. This is another way of saying, if you like something, enjoy it and don't give a shit about what others think... more power to you for liking something when others don't. Enjoy the movie.
