Default Can someone shed ANY light on when the 1.1 spec players are going to come out?

Can someone shed ANY light on when the 1.1 spec players are going to come out? Its getting mega old hearing the HD-DVD camp use interactivity as their advantage and I wish the BDA would quit ignoring this.

Please, someone tell us something.

The first announced player is the Denon that is Blu-ray only and that should be early Dec. last I heard. Then there is the Samsung dual player that is around the same time. I suspect some of the newer players as well as the PS3 are 1.1 ready. But they are not saying since it will kill sales of those players that are not.

I hope this is true and given the prices of the models announced at IFA and CEDIA, they had better be AT least 1.1 compliant.

I wonder if the $399 PS3 since it will hit stores after 10/31, be 1.1 ready?
Or is the loophole that it isn't really a new model?
(but it does have a new sku, different innards, etc)

Thats the thing. Its possible these players could get squeezed out before this date to avoid this mandatory requirement.

Its 10/10 now.
You really think there is going to be a flood of new players on 10/30?
If so, I think that would not be a good sign!

Considering how small the market it that fact that there are 4 that is enough. 2 from sony and 1 each from pioneer and panasonic. And they all have street dates within the next 2 weeks.

I read that it is all players announced after 10/31. I reckon that means they could announce a player on 10/30 or 10/31 but not ship it till 01/08 and it still would be 1.0.

Thoughts?

Do not like wikipedia much but here they have it right in this case.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc

Profile 1 (Final Standard Profile) (mandatory November 2007)-unofficially referred to as "Profile 1.1"- adds a secondary video decoder (typically used for picture in picture), secondary audio (typically used for interactive audio and commentary) and the capability of supporting a minimum of 256 MB of persistent memory (for storing audio/video and title updates) through either built in memory or with user provided memory such as a memory card or a USB flash drive. Compliance with this profile will be mandatory for player models introduced to the market after October 31, 2007,[1] but existing products will be unaffected. As of September 2007, only the Denon DVD-3800BDCI (MSRP $1999.99) and DVD-2500BTCI have been announced as supporting this feature, but they have been delayed until early 2008. [2]

Now we could debate what introduced means.

The problems come if the Denon is the only one really. Since at 2K is not for the faint of heart.

I believe the Blu-ray Association says all models certified after 10/31. No, I don't have a link. Maybe we should ask an Insider this.

Since it will so soon be a moot point, does it really matter much? Compliant players will come down in price so 1.0 "old" models will be driven off the market. Retailers might just stop selling 1.0s since they can expect higher returned goods on these, as customers learn they can't do certain things.

Oh, and I doubt Sony will make the PS3 1.1 and 2.0 compliant too quickly. They don't want to hurt sales of other manufacturer's products. It's good for Blu for there to be several brands offered, several companies advertising.

Also, nowhere does it state that players may NOT be 1.1/2.0 compliant before that date... just that they don't have to be.

The LG BH200 will most likely be the first Final Standard Profile player on the market.

Why isn't Sony making the S500 1.1? Isn't it due out 11/1?

Edit, I saw on their website due 10/31

Even the $1300 BDP-S2000ES will not be 1.1

I wouldn't bet on that. Sigma Design have had their profile 1.1/2.0 compliant SoC available for some time now. Kjack have even hinted that Sony could have included it in the S300, but didn't for some reason.

To me, it would not make any sense to not make the S500/S2000ES hardware prepared for profile 1.1/2.0. I would guess that several of the recently announced Blu-ray players will be upgraded to profile 1.1/2.0 when we get closer to Nov 20th (when the first PiP release is planned). This is of course my guess, but at least I see no need to worry about this until middle of November...
