This, basically, confirms that a firmware update is coming between Oct.30 and Nov.2. Remember, NO new Blu-ray player can be introduced after Oct. 31 without being Profile 1.1. The 40GB PS3 is a new BD player (new SKU and everything). Therefore, it has to be Profile 1.1, but they didn't ship with the firmware on it. That means it has to be software updated (just like the new slimline PSPs).

The updated terms and agreement fits in that time frame. They wouldn't do 2 firmware updates inside of a week (unless there was a problem). So, there you have it. Expect firmware version 2.0 between Oct.30 and Nov. 2.

Default Holiday Blu blitz kickin in to gear

Sweet, looks like the holiday blu blitz is hitting into high gear. With all the sales this coming Sunday, lowered PS3, spidey 3, profile updates, firmware updates - looks to be a good holidayt season for blu. Now, all we need is some more title announcements and lowered prices for other Blu-ray CE manufacturers. Anyone else feel the impact of Transformers will be minimal? It will sell well for an HD-DVD title but doubt that it will the week in Nielsen's.

Sales are up in the Uk so backwards compatibility does not seem to be an issue.

That doesn't confirm anything and I wouldnt get your hopes up. It could be a profile 1.1 because of the deadline, but it may not be as it is marketed as a gaming system, so I wouldn't go around guaranteeing anything. Secondly, just because Sony releases a new player does not mean that they will release a comparable or compatible firmware update to profile 1.1 for existing PS3's. Again, that could happen but that is if and only if the new PS3 is profile 1.1 compliant and even then its probably a stretch.... It will happen sometime in the near future but between Oct.30 and Nov.2 is outta the question.

Glad to hear it! I figured it would not be an issue, hopefully the same will happen in the US.

Game sales are up too:

The charts reflected this as well: Resistance climbed from 22 back up to 8, Heavenly Sword back up to 14 and Motorstorm from 23 to 18.
