Default Adam Sandler's Happy Madison to produce Summer School re-make

Quote:
Paramount has been trying to revisit the 1980s comedy since 2005, but the project has been stuck in development detention.

Happy Madison, the production banner run by Adam Sandler and Jack Giaraputo, is in negotiations to come aboard to produce Paramount’s planned remake of Summer School.

School was a light 1987 comedy directed by Carl Reiner that starred Mark Harmon as a gym teacher forced to cancel his summer plans and teach an English class filled with oddballs and rebels. The film also featured a young Courtney Thorne-Smith.

Paramount has been trying to remake the film since 2005 but the project has been stuck in development detention. Jordan Kerner, the producer behind The Smurfs and Charlotte’s Web, was initially backing a version that would have made the teacher hard-nosed (as opposed to Harmon's laid-back character) and squaring off against one mischievous student.

Another incarnation, this one around 2010, involved Star Trek writer-producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

By bringing aboard Sandler and Giaraputo, the studio is signaling that it hopes to bring a more comedic focus to the project. Sandler is currently not attached to star in the project, which will soon hire writers.

I was just about to post this. I can imagine within a few minutes this thread will be filled with so much hate. Just sit back, eat some popcorn and enjoy the fireworks.

I had forgotten about that movie, haven't seen it in years. Hard to imagine Gibb's doing that role now

PS if you are wondering what I am talking about, think NCIS

Not so keen on a remake, but just watched the original earlier and still love this movie. However, looking back it's pretty amazing how much they got away with in a PG-13 movie .. especially this scene below. I'm guessing this was made with R in mind but somehow got a lower rating.

But seriously this can go one of two directions. Either the Grown Ups path (actually pretty funny) or the Bucky Larson path.

So you're saying it's going to be terrible.

I think that scene didn't affect the PG-13 because in the film it was just a gag and the audience knew it.

Or the Mr. Deeds/Longest Yard path, where Adam buys up a remake that needed a producer, looks up the one-sentence movie description on Leonard Maltin's Guide and says "'Teacher gets demoted to summer duty, and parties with the underachievers?' What's the deal, I can do that!"

(Which, between this and some of his recently acquired animated projects, seems to be the new slogan of Happy Madison Productions: "Eh, here, lemme buy that, how hard could it be?")
