![]() ![]() Darkness Blu-ray <- 103m in 2.42:1 DTS-HD MA 2.0 DD 5.1 Darkness Blu-ray Review ![]() Darkness / Below Blu-ray Sept 11, 2012 ![]() Miramax Multi-Feature: Masters of Terror Pack Blu-ray <- 88m in 1.78:1 DTS-HD MA 5.1 I know that the version contained on the combo pack with Phantoms and Cursed has been reported to be the PG-13 cut and I think possibly in wrong aspect ratio of 1.78:1, but does anyone have any info on the single release that's due out on 7/10? I was at Fry's yesterday and they had about 15 copies of this on the shelf priced at $5. The back of the case said "Rated R" and "102 minutes", also "2.35:1" with DTS audio (not lossless) and a featurette. We all know Echo Bridge can't be trusted with the specs listed on their packaging (I picked up the dvd equivalent off the shelf and it also stated 102 minutes, but with PG-13 stamped on it). I was gonna bite and just see for myself, but the register refused to sell it because it was before street date. The manager took it away and said they were gonna pull all of them from the shelf. Anyway, hopefully someone can shed some light on this one soon. ![]() Last edited by Deciazulado; 09-01-2012 at 08:06 PM. |

It's the unrated cut and the correct aspect ratio. For sound it has DTS HD MA 2.0 and Dolby Digital 5.1 |

I sampled my copy and the picture quality looked good. Darkness is a ummm... dark film benefits from the high definition bump. The audio quality seemed good too. Darkness is an under-rated film and the Echo Bridge single disc release is well worth picking up.
Now if we could just get a domestic blu-ray release of Jaume Balagueró's [Rec] films... Darkness has been found early in Best Buy's $7.99 bargain bins (but at the $5.99 price) along with similar Echo Bridge releases for The Faculty, Dirty Pretty Things, and 3-4 others. YMMV on them being out yet but they are trickling through in some places. Last edited by Undeadcow; 06-19-2012 at 02:00 PM. |

I would love to see that, as I wonder which edition to take. I mean the previous Echo Bridge release was not OAR (but I liked the new framing) and the PQ was pretty good too... |

Just looking at the file size, the file on the three pack is about 10.5 GB, the single release is about 19.5 GB |

Darkness is under rated, it's not perfect but there's good tension and it doesn't pull any punches. There some creepy imagery and it's an atmospheric film. I enjoyed it theatrically on release and several times on DVD. Especially for $5.99 you can't go wrong.

Agreed, I saw it on DVD without knowing much about it and thought it was a decent watch.

If the version in the 3-pack is in fact about 10.5gb, then it would seem there are at least three versions. I noticed BDInfo specs were posted for the version in the 'Masters of Terror' 6-pack and that edition (total size 11.3gb) has a DTS MA track. Can anyone confirm if the standalone in fact drops the MA or if it's just incorrect specs on the case?

The screen caps comparison by psicon is interesting, especially if you compare the framing between the EB single and Spanish releases. The mattes have a different placement on those transfers, which is something I've noticed on many of the discs from Echo Bridge.
