...Blu-ray's sales lead by now should be 3 to 1 because people would have been buying movies instead of renting.

disagree completely...blockbuster's going exclusive creates more interest in blu ray...people don't buy movies just because they can't rent them...they would just rent it on dvd...also, blockbuster having a whole blu ray section generates interest in other people who havent gone blu yet

yeah to bad my blockbuster stores dont have blu-ray not even hd-dvd because i wanted to rent a movie from blockbuster and not 1 single Blu-Ray movie not even a PS3 game available, no hd-dvd, just vhs, dvd, xbox, xbox 360, gamecube, and thats about it. but it is true that the building looks like its 20 years old or maybe even older and plus the movie covers are so worn down you can barely even read what the cover says

Well not many people can afford to buy every movie they want to see. I certainly cant and I only buy blu-rays of movies I know I'll see many times over. I'm glad I have 2 blockbusters with blu or else I probably wouldn't see some titles I wouldn't buy anyways.

My local Blockbuster is renting Blu-ray movies and games, and has begun selling new Blu-ray movies. Also, it willl soon be selling the 40 gig PS3, which is to be featured in a new end cap display.

I'll keep repeating myself in hopes of everyone understanding. Great BD sales are nice because it helps to win over Warner and Universal come after Christmas season. But it does NOT make HD DVD go away until December 2008 because of the Paramount / Dreamworks deal. At best we stalemate them and keep them at bay. This is still like trying to sweep back the ocean. As long as it is being produced, consumers will buy it. The fate lay in the hands of the studios. If you have not already, please read my open letter in my signature. This stale mate might even lead to long term consumer indifference and the eventual demise of BOTH products. Doesn't matter how great something is if no one buys it. Right? Just read the letter, guys. Last edited by tron3; 10-17-2007 at 05:29 PM. |

Retailers have no interest in studio support per se. Examples: Free Record Shop, Meijer. When sales get to a certain point, anything goes away. |

My local Blockbuster now has 200+ BDs, no HD DVD. They should be getting new ones on the date released from now on. I believe some stores participated in an initial rollout to test the waters for rentals with this format.
Coupled with my netflix subscription for rental, I'm pretty much set and will only purchase what titles I deem "must buy" based upon my own personal preferences for content regardless of PQ and AQ. |

I disagree with the OP. And plus Blu-Ray gets more sales when Blockbuster buys the movies for its' stores.

Gotta stick by my fellow blu-blood (and #1 I might add), he's absolutely right and here's why: It all comes down to money. Right now we're all a very small minority of the movie rental/purchase community, both Blu and DUD (I refuse to even aknowledge them as HD anymore, they can't even give us uncompressed sound and picture together) combined. If the numbers aren't there to make it viable to support the format either way or combined, then all the studios and manufacturers will just drop it.
The vast majority of consumers are on the fence, waiting for a clear-cut winner in this war. If it doesn't happen soon, the industry might just consider that HD home theater isn't catching on since very few people are buying into it. It happens folks. That's why your favorite band isn't putting out albums any more; it isn't because they wanted to stop playing, it was just that not enough people were buying their albums and their label dropped them. It happens all the time. Hope this clears things up, somewhat, and that I didn't hurt anyone's feelings. Just trying to help out! |

i know the feeling.
i asked my local blockbuster if they had blu-ray, and they said they didn't. but i'm not surprised because i live in a fairly rural area. kinda in the stix. about an hour south of st. louis, BUT i bet stL has blu-ray at their blockbusters. the other option for rentals is Family Video, and i asked if they carried blu-ray, and they said "no, we're waiting to see which technology wins out before we start carrying hi-def movies." i just wanted to say pffffbt, whatever...blu-ray's gonna win. what are you tarded? but i didn't, i just said, oh...well i understand, then i walked away to the video game dept, and rolled my eyes whilst doint so. ![]() |
