Default Question about International sales ratios

I know BD sells a little over 2 to 1 here in the states and I think I've seen in Japan it's like 9 to 1, but does anyone have an average for an international sales ratio? Is there a way to find out BD sales on a global level? Please forgive my ignorance...this stuff is not my area.

Do these numbers include PS3 as BD players?

For pure BD players, excluding PS3, the numbers for some european countries up to Sep 07 are (BD:HD-DVD) :

UK: 1:2.6
France: 1:2.5
Germany: 1:4.1
Italy: 1:1
Spain: 1:1
Switzerland: 1:3.7

Average for these 6 countries is: 1:3 in favor of HD-DVD

As I don't have any figures on PS3 shipments in these countries, I can't give you a global ratio.

i think those are pritty close and acuurent but it should be noted that blu-ray player prices for players are high in europ(as the norm) and the ps3 is the cheapest blu-ray player

Saying that it's 1:3 is then like saying something more pure. Pure FUD

Here is a summary of the sales around the world. I know I have missed some countries. I think Blu-ray is beating HD-DVD with atleast 3:1 outside of USA...

Software sales statistics:
USA: 2:1
Japan: 9:1
Australia: 9:1
Spain: 4:1
Norway: 4:1

Hardware:
The PS3 has not been counted in the HighDef player sales numbers from Europe. The number of HighDef players in Europe in totla (HD-DVD+Blu-ray was about 10,000 in Europe in March. Toshiba have not wanted to brag about these numbers lately even if HD-DVD stand-alone player was out-selling Blu-ray (if you don't count the PS3...). I think Blu-ray now is outselling HD-DVD because of the content. It's hard to find HighDef media titles in stores but if you find some it will in most cases only be Blu-ray and otherwise both Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

I thought I heard that Blu-Ray was leading the way in Euro Countries and it didn't have anything to do with the pricing....................... But hey remember that the Red team doesn't fight fair with all there negative remarks - It's like they own the News Sources - lol - Down with Red in with Blu........

Agreed ;-) But then, I should include in these numbers the total of laptops from HP and Toshiba, sold with HD-DVD players, as these are also HD-DVD players ... with some extras :-)

Please do.

And include the Dells and Sonys then etc.

But you see, I don't use the laptop on my Home Theater system. But my PS3 is my 35mm projector. And of many here.

I can see why PS2 wasn't counted as a DVD player. It wasn't a great one to start with.

However, PS3 is a great BD player and should be counted as one. Period. If that wasn't the case, then I guess I bought my second PS3 today for nothing. I bought it at Superstore in St. Catharines, they were having a "No Tax" sale. So I decided to get one for my HDTV in my bedroom for only $499.98... tax free. Saved myself around $70.

It's true, I know tons of people that have a home theater with a docking station. It looks really professional. Hey "Honey, I just spent $10K on the home theater, but I saved some cash by hooking up my work's notebook".

The features on the laptop are very comparable to the PS3...

P.S. That's retarded!

Your counting method is pointless, as we could count -anything- that involves a BD or HD-DVD player, including replication/data storage towers as long as we're here?
http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/def...px?EDC=1274163

What counts is players actually used for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD format playback, and thus the way to do it is to count disc sales.

As you well know, HD DVD is crushed everywhere else but the US, where BD still enjoys a comfy 2:1 sale ratio (probably more by the end of Q4).

This is for me?

I'm working for a major company who is selling solutions including both BD and HD-DVD products.
As a designer, I know advantages and limitations of both format, from end to end (mfg to production), have not yet bought any HD player and will not do so in the short term.

My intend was just to bring detailed figures on players sales in Europe which include all current manufacturers, but exclude non dedicated products such as game consoles and computers.

That being said, I believe BD is superior, but is this enough to be win? And to consider it has already win?
I will let the market decide. Nothing else to add.
