Default Blu-Ray Conversation w/ customer of mine

I work for a computer company here in Richmond, VA as a salesman and had an interesting conversation with a customer today about Blu-Ray. He was looking for a combo Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive for a computer. All we offer currently is a Blu-ray drive (thank god). He was somewhat upset because he didn't like Blu-Ray as much and probably wasn't going to be buying much of them vs. HD-DVD. I of course being the Blu-Ray fan that I am asked him why? He responded "Well I picked up Full-Metal Jacket and it looked terrible" Of course we all know that the PQ on this film isn't one to write home about. But it makes me think how many people out there that aren't very "informed" will buy a bad PQ movie and get turned off to Blu-ray that quickly. Luckily I was able to salvage him and told him how his PS3 could update the firmware of the internet and all of the other good PQ movies out there. This experience just got me thinking and I felt like posting about it. Also of course just doing my civic Blu-Ray duty by helping out a fellow consumer

Good job soldier. I'm not nearly as patient. I was talking with a HD fan, and all I did scream "STUPID!!! STUPID!!! STUPID!!! STUPID!!! STUPID!!! STUPID!!!" I don't think I changed his mind.

Good post. The avg. customer is expecting perfection from their DVD player and from the disc. Rarely will they be savvy enough to think that it may be the movie print that was used for the DVD was not up to snuff to begin with. They dont fathom that the problem is because it's an older movie. They'll always blame the equipment or the format.

It shows yet another way how movies themselves contribute to the format war. Not only is selection important but the PQ on particular moovies themselves. Most folks buying a player, unless they happened to have already owned a PS3 for gaming and bought a few BD's here and there, aren't going to come home from the store after buying their player with more than a couple or so movies. All the more reason why the CE manufactorer ought to consider springing for a movie with very good PQ and throw it into the box to increase the wow factor with the customer's purchase. Might reduce returns in ther long run and even if it didn't, would be a good example of VAS.

Cool Nicely Done

I was at BB this week getting some BOGO movies and noticed a guy picking up a new PS3 and 300. I struck up a conversation and warned him about 300 being not the best example of HD movies. I told him it does look like it's supposed to but if he really wants his socks blown off to get a POTC movie, which he did. I felt better knowing he would see what I consider a reference quality transfer as one of his first movies.

But back to you, nice job. Well done.

I also would have pointed out "FMJ" on HD DVD looks the same and maybe even a little less sharp...some reviews have pointed this out.

Plus a new "deluxe" release is coming very soon, and probably will have a better video encode.

I did mention this to him and told him it was due to release on tuesday lol. Funny thing is he told me he was going to buy it again I also told him to pick up good PQ movies like the Pirates movies etc. I of course always try to do my Blu-ray duty....for example on Tuesday when Transformers on HD-DVD came out I was at Best Buy and piled a bunch of other HD-DVD movies in front of the transformers they had and then put two blu-ray movies in front of them
