Default Das Boot Blu-ray coming at all?

And im not talking the rated das boot, or the unrated.

Im talking about the 5 hour epic original unrated masterpeice exactly as wolfgang peterson imagined it. I have this on dvd (cost me 50 bucks when I bought it) and it is one of my all time favorites.

Im just hoping they bring it to blu-ray. I would pay 100 bucks for it on blu ray if necessary.

Anyone heard anything?

Thank you. Would also like to know if this is the original mini-series or the extended director's cut which was released as Superbit. The mini-series, from what I recall, had issues with certain scenes being taken from less than pristine sources. At the end of the day, I'd prefer the most techincally perfect version of this film/series.

WP has said that the director's cut is his ideal version of the film, and that the TV version is a totally different animal

Most probable region free because it's not a Fox or Lionsgate release and it's not a day-and-date.

This is true. And having seen this director's cut in a well equipt theatre, I am inclined to agree. I doubt that they did any surround sound mix for the original TV series. In fact I remember reading that a special sound mix was made for the director's cut from audio tapes that were restored by baking them in an oven. (They had gotten damp.)

I am sorry I lost track of this thread. The information was provided by Paidgeek earlier this year before he stopped pointing to possible release dates. It is my understanding that SONY will be offering the extended version which came out later on DVD. As WickyWoo has noted already I don't believe this is going to be the mini-series rendition.

Nevertheless this should be an incredible treat for those who appreciate Petersen's vision.

UPDATE REQUEST

Any word slipping out? If it were still early Feb, I'd think we'd have heard something by now.

So even if the only word you've heard is indefinitely delayed, please share it.

Here's to more German cinema coming on Blu. So far we only have "Das Leben Der Anderen." "Lola Rennt" is coming in a couple months, right?

Yeah but they're coming here as "Run Lola Run" and "The Lives of Others". Still in German of course.

I'm looking forward to Das Boot as well; hooefully we won't have to wait too long. Stalingrad and Downfall would be great, too.

Downfall would be nice. Maybe they'll even put the youtube video on the disc as an extra.

I'm looking for Das Boot and Downfall too. There were rumours a while back that Das Boot was in the Pipeline... things seem to have gone very quiet though.

Was I p1$$ed when I saw this:-

Still no word I can find. Last I heard was Feb 2008 and then delayed again. Surely it must be coming out sometime in the next few months.
