Default Element 32" LCD (Circuit City)

Anyone know if this is any good? Hoping my parents didn't screw up...

Don't know much about the product line, but just based on the reviews I saw, it seems to be a pretty decent little TV. 720p is more than enough for a 32" TV, and the price is reasonable. I don't think they'll be disappointed.

I work at Circuit City and sorry to tell you, those element tv's are returned frequently. If your looking for that price, get a vizio or the jvc 32".

Oh no! Do they break down soon/under warranty? Also, who makes them?

They are made by ccity. the warranties are inexpensive so thats good but dont know why they are returned but i know they are returned a lot. there is a thirty day return policy so if they are returned it's done within the first month. the customer service guys told me that the elements and the polaroids are always being returned of the tv's sold.

Polaroid has nothing to do with them

Like Westinghouse, their name is licensed to front for a chinese OEM

Rule of thumb "Is this company known for making TVs (or anything for that matter for Olevia Vizio etc)"?

If not, then you probably shouldn't be buying it

Well, this thing is still going after more than 2 months which is better than some of those reviews I just read. Fortunately my parents bought the warranty thingy so if anything goes wrong they should be covered.

The main problem which was evident from the beginning is whites/brights getting blown out, e.g. I took my Avia disc over there and on the 5 stacked boxes the top 2 brightest boxes blur together no matter how low you turn down the settings.

After getting the tv they got set up with DirectTV's hi def service.

We got them a PS3 for Christmas. Hooked it up. Watched Casino Royale Christmas night and I was shocked at how good it looked and that it didn't exhibit the blown out upper range.

SD DirectTV looks pretty crappy and is blown out
SD old cheap DVDP looked decent but blown out
HD DirectTV looks good but is also blown out
PS3 BD looked awesome

The PS3 of course is running thru HDMI. The DirectTV and the now not used DVDP are/were connected via component.

I guess what I'm wondering is could the blown out issue have to do with the component/HDMI connections? Should I hook up the DTV via HDMI and see if the pic improves?

Their setup over there is pretty hard to mess with but if it's worth checking into I def. will.

Thanks
