Default Ultimate James Bond Collection

I sure hope it does not take 10 years from now for the entire James Bond collection to appear on Blu-Ray. The ultimate edition is so tempting on DVD. I have the 2 volumes of the 3 original DVD special box sets. However there really is no point in buying another DVD box set to complete my James Bond Library. I would be buying copies I already have but not getting a whole lot more for my money.

I can't wait for the 1080p edition to be released on Blu-Ray!!

Imagine the shock and awe if this saw a miracle 11th hour in time for Christmas announcement.

Yeah, I know...and then I woke up.

But I fully expect to see these in relatively short order. They may wait until Casino Royale is out of the theaters so they can include it.

I'm definitely looking forward to my loaded BD disc of that, right off the bat!

I'm sorry I don't have a link handy, but I read from someone at the top of the foodchain, that James Bond is considered a 'product for the masses' and will therefore NOT be released in a Hi-def format anytime soon (read: until Hi-Def is a mass market).

If BD has a good showing in the next four months, perhaps Casino Royale will be released. Hot new releases sell formats.

Who has the home video distribution rights for the older Bond films? CR is from UA/Columbia, so I presume Sony has CR.

I mention this in every post about Bond I come across, but (at least for me) it's not just waiting. I will not be buying Blu copies of the transfers they did for the Ultimate DVD collection. Some of those have serious color and framing issues. Those would need to be corrected before I purchase - and I have an awful feeling that they might not be fixed if these get released soon.

The reason why I got blu-ray was the hope in getting my fav films (james Bond) in high-def.

Sony/MGM please release them NOW!!!

"Serious color and framing issues" ???

Can you elaborate? What are you basing this on? Do you have the Ultimate DVD collection or are you reffering to the HD broadcasts recently shown on TMN/MC?

I would be VERY surprised if the ACTUAL newly restored 1080P24 masters have any issues themselves... I would think it more likely that the conversion/transfer would be the issue here (but I may be wrong...).

He is talking about the Ultimate Edition DVDs. Here is a comprehensive comparison of the Special Editions to the Ultimate Editions.

The vast majority of the UEs are clear upgrades and some are minor upgrades. Only Goldeneye could really be considered "botched" in my opinion.

Goldeneye is my favorite Bond film, so the better fix it if/when the set is released.

I won't deny that there are some issues with the Ultimate Editions, but the vast majority are serious upgrades over the original Special Editions and have some of the best PQ available in SD today. My biggest concern is that the edge enhancement still present on a good number of Ultimate Editions was introduced during the Lowry treatment and is therefore present in the 4K masters.

I agree with your "awful feeling." The very expensive restoration was done with HD media in mind. There will be no new masters for the Blu-ray editions (at least the first go around...).

To the poster who dreams about the whole collection coming this fall: no.

I feel the need to elaborate. Goldeneye was my main concern for framing issues. On her majesty's secret service was the biggest issue for color. Live and let die also has a lot of issues with softness and contrast. Color is off in other movies too (You only live twice is anoher good example). It isn't off through the entire movies though. And yes, overall they are huge imprevements from what we had before, but Lowry screwed them up just like they screwed up the color of Star Wars on DVD in certain places and it's far too obvious for me to be happy with.

The biggest problem of course is that while it may only be a few movies that have the serious issues, these movies get bundled together and we get forced to buy the ones with issues too. So until I can buy them knowing that what I'm seeing is what I'm supposed to be seeing, I won't be buying them.

Yes, true. The first 9 were at 4K, the rest were at 2k. These are going to look REALLY REALLY REALLY good.

Never noticed the cropping issue on GoldenEye before. They need to fix that for sure.

I hope Paramount will have John Lowry and DTS Images remaster the 10 Star Trek films for BLu-ray release but being the cheapasses hey are, they won't.

I wouldn't hold your breath for this to happen anytime soon. You could settle for "License to Wed" starring the wonderful Robin Williams.

Default James Bond Ultimate Collector's Set on Blu-Ray?

Don't know if anyone is interested or not, but a new James Bond Ultimate Collector's Set is set to release November 6 in DVD with all 21 movies included each with a bonus disc, adding up to 42 discs in total.

Does anyone know if it would ever be planned to release the James Bond movies on Blu-Ray?

Well, it's MGM so I would think at some point they will all come out for us. But you have to think that the re-work that needs to take place on these titles would be quite the task.
