Ouch! That must hurt.

Damn, a 60 inch 1080p would be nice! (I have a 40 inch Bravia 1080p)

But the price of a 70 inch 1080p !!!

There must be some sort of tax write-off for this.

i usually buy a new tv every 2 years or so anyway...just for the fact that technology changes so much in 2 years...especially with HDTVs.. i would prolly try and convince the wifie for a new set

Nothing wrong with a 720p set. The picture should still be excellent.

If you could convince someone.....maybe a relative to take the set off your hands for whatever price you would deem reasonable, then I would say go for a 1080p set.

It's tough. I bought a sony KV-34XBR800 set five years ago this fall and paid $2,200 for it.....great deal at the time......it's still a great set with a fantastic 1080i picture, but of course now I want bigger than 34".

I'm going to ride it out for another few years or so.....had a hard enough time convincing the wife the first time around.

To me there's only a slight difference between a 720p and a 1080p. I have a 720p Panasonic 42in Plasma that came out this year. It was $1500 at CC. They had the LG 40 LCD 1080p that caught my eye for only $500 more. I had to really think about it, but I'm a movie guy so I went the Plasma because the movies look better. If I had more money I could have stepped up to the 1080p Plasmas.

I have a 42" 720P TV that is just fine. At 60" however, 1080P is the only way to go. Time for a new TV.

I have only 720p or 1080i on my old Sony plasma. I love the TV and can't readily see the difference from 720p and 1080i. I suppose many will say 1080P is exponentially greater than 1080i, but I just don't think it's worth replacing a TV that I love. I say you hold out for true next gen technology.

How far do you sit from it?

If its more than 8 feet away, you won't be able to tell the difference!

Hint: look at sig.

Just remember the golden rule: When you buy the 72", make sure to buy your wife something really nice too to deflect your purchase.

The Sony Store near where I live in Calgary is one of only 2 Sony Stores in Canada that has a fully set-up display model of the 70" LCD. I saw it the other day when I went to pick up my Playstation Eye, and all I can say is.... DAMN!

As to the sticker price... $39,999.00 CDN. That TV costs more than my car!

Hell, we can even go to Spokane and with the CDN$ being as strong as it is, buy it for even less - NICE!

More bang for our buck baby!
