Default Got my first 50GB BD-R DL from Sony.

Arrived today, 50GB BD-R DL. Takes a lot to fill 47730 mb; so I'll post and see how this goes after I sit and wait for the write to finish on the SW-5582.

Anyone heard of any new firmware for the 5582 yet?

And it's a no-go. So far, Nero or AVS both won't write to the 50gb disc.... No other software I know of, yet, either.

And it's coastered...

Looks like Nero tried to write a tiny bit to the thing and gave up... Most expensive coaster I ever made... Wonder how long I'll have to wait to even try that again.

hmm, maybe it isnt... Seeing that ring on my BD 25's too...

Does anyone know of, or have any software besides Nero or AVS that could possibly write to this thing? (Perhaps the software that is 'coming with' the 5582's now? Mine of course, didn't come with that.)

I don't really know - you could try to contact Panasonic and see if they will supply the software?

I do anxiously await your results though...

I would imagine they'll supply you the software though it'll be a nightmare to get.

Default Success!

Success!

And, it wasn't a coaster! Here's what I did:

1) Installed Panasonic's DVD-RAM drivers from last year (???!)
2) Updated Nero
3) Restarted the system
4) Made a new compilation, and burned.

It is the pressed discs that are difficult, not the recordable ones (though one would think that there are many shared issues).

I dunno about others but I have an extensive collection of 'fair use' HD recordings that I would like to move to a simple playable disc format.

Of course, the price per GB will have to come back a lot before I would move to HD DVD or Bluray for this purpose (of course HD DVD would also have to release drives and discs at all, but I imagine they will in good time).

I could put 2-6 movies on a 50 GB disc depending on the run time and bitrate

Or half a season of a TV series...

I am counting down the time... I may yet leap on the Sony drive when it is released assuming it handles DL discs...

I can't wait to move my collection on to easily playable discs...

I'll get excited when I actually see it implemented for movie releases.

At least it's starting to show up. That's step 1.

Needs pictures. Can you show us pictures of the disc itself and all the rest of it? Thanks.

Sure is blue. This is the Panasonic one, haven't written to it yet. Can show the Sony one too if you like.
