Default House of Cards: The Complete First Season June 11

House of Cards: The Complete First Season Blu-ray
House of Cards: The Complete First Season Pre-order

Quote:
Ruthless and cunning, Congressman Francis Underwood and his wife Claire stop at nothing to conquer everything. This wicked political drama penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern D.C. Kate Mara and Corey Stoll costar in the first original series from David Fincher and Beau Willimon.

Well that's good. I was worried Netflix was going to keep it as a streaming exclusive, which would piss me off to no end.

Isn't David Fincher tied into this?

It seems like it could be good and if Fincher is involved, count me in.

It was good. 5th best show on tv in the power rankings.

Yes, he is a producer and directed the first two episodes.

I'm really happy this was announced so quickly, since I was worried Netflix would be keeping this as a streaming exclusive and we don't get that here in Germany.

Making this a streaming exclusive makes about as much sense as making any other TV show a broadcast exclusive. I've been saying this in Arrested Development threads: the studios aren't just gonna throw a time-proven model (broadcast first, then home video) out just because Netflix essentially uses a slightly-modified version of broadcasting.

Good to see they have a distributor for this (Sony). It's a great show, easily one of the best in the past few years.

Loved the first couple of episodes. I usually HATE political dramas but this one is so well done and interesting that its not hard to stay drawn to every episode. I'll probably purchase it again.

[Show spoiler]
Politics in many ways is merely a vehicle for the show.. I mean, obviously they play a role in what happens in the show, but it's just a template for power. Frank Underwood is very much like a mob boss. He has hired muscle, woman on the side, business deals and he lays down threats when there's insubordination, etc...

I loved this show. Excellent season, highly recommend to anyone who doesn't have Netflix.

Corey Stoll should be nominated for his role in this show. Spectacular.

Will Netflix carry the BDs? That would be nice.
Heck they have the original BBC series for bly-ray rental.

C'mon Netflix don't wh*re your own series from your BD subscribers!

I hope Fincher does commentary tracks for his 2 eps.

The rest of the directors aren't too shabby either:

Joel Schumacher
James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross, Fear)
Allen Coulter (directed eps for several shows: X-Files, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Rome)

Will definitely pick this up once it gets to the $25 range. Excellent show with real repeated viewing potential. I'm glad that the second season starts production this month.

Also, quality bonus material and documentaries are a MUST!

Looks like the UK will be getting this on June 10th, so I expect the US's release will be around the same time. It also will be coming with a UV copy

As long as it's available to stream, I see no reason to buy it. At least to me.

Besides having better quality, I may not always be able to access Netflix (or I may not always subscribe to Netflix), but I'll always have the discs. If I really enjoy something (as I do with this show), I want to own it and add it to my collection. I don't want my enjoyment to hinge completely on whether or not I'm paying a monthly subscription or have internet access.
