Default Ghost Rider 3?

Nic Cage did an interview with collider today and spoke about a potential Ghost Rider 3 that would not involve his return.

Quote:
Just a few hours ago, I sat down with Nicolas Cage for a fantastic interview about DreamWorks Animations The Croods. While I’ve spoken to Cage a number of times, today was definitely the best interview by a mile. Not only was he excited to talk about The Croods and how happy he was with the finished film, when I asked him about Superman, SNL’s Get in the Cage with Nicolas Cage, and even possible future projects like Ghost Rider 3, he was more than happy to talk. I can’t wait to share the full interview. However, rather than having you wait till the week of March 22nd (when The Croods gets released), fans of the Ghost Rider movie franchise will be happy to know that I’m posting what he said about that franchise today. The big news is when I asked him if the movie is on the drawing board, or if it’s a possibility, he told me:

“It’s possible, but it won’t be with me.”

Continued after the jump.

While Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance only made $51 million domestically, it pulled in another $80 million worldwide, for a total of $132 million before home video sales. With a budget of $47 million (according to Cage), a third installment seems like an easy bet for Sony, especially with the popularity of comic book movies around the world.

However, one of the big issues with the Ghost Rider franchise is that I’ve never spoken to one person who loved either film. While each Ghost Rider movie had a few moments that were cool, on the whole I think the character is really tough to translate onto movie screens, and it might be one that’s better suited to stay in comic books.

Getting back to a 3rd movie…

Even though Cage is a huge comic book fan and loved playing the character, he told me:

“I’ve said what I have to say. I don’t want to say never…anything’s possible. But I doubt, highly, that I would be in a third installment of that.”

So the big question is do you still want to see a 3rd Ghost Rider movie if Cage isn’t Johnny Blaze? Do you think Sony should reboot it? Let me know in the comments.

Here’s Cage and I talking about Ghost Rider 3. Look for the full interview later this month.

Sony should just let Ghost Rider revert back to Marvel so they can do the character justice.

I actually enjoyed the second one. It just needed a better script.

I kinda liked the second one, 1st was so-so. Hell I can't even remember the 1st one.

So yeah let the rights go back to Marvel so he can get a cameo in a Avengers movie.

The 2nd one was like some shitty DTV sequel, with a decent SFX budget.

I liked the first, but really didn't care for the second one. and I'm a fan of the directors of the second one. Felt very direct to dvd/SyFy Channel feel to it.

I think Nicolas Cage gets too much hate. Sure, his acting was hammy, but the blame goes on the writers & director for making the first film having campy moments that were vomit inducing.

Ghost Rider is a dark character that needs to stay that way much like The Punisher.

I didn't care too much for the sequel, even though I enjoyed the first film. The sequel was simply too dark and gritty for me ... it was just a jumbled mess. I doubt we'll see a third one.
