i connect the sound thru HDMI, whenever i turn on the volume halfway, the receiver would turn off. What could cause this? is it my speaker red and black wire mix up ?

Default Onkyo 605 shuts off with PS3

I'm having the same problem also. Just got the reciever a few weeks ago and twice it has done this during disk playback from the PS3. I also have an HDMI cable hooked up. It was doing this last night a few times but I didn't have the volume really loud. Later I played cd's connected with a standard rca cable and no problem. I'm thinking it may be the hdmi cable - some kind of voodoo going on there.

I would call Onkyo's support jsut to make them aware of the problem, they may have heard more of it, who knows. They do have good tech support so good luck with that, I have not heard that before and I sell Onkyo's.

...i think my DCM tower speaker might be too powerful for this sr605. My friend told me i might need 2 separate amp just to run those 2 speakers

I think one set of banana plugs may have been touching each other. I have some rather long plugs and it's pretty crowded behind my reciever with the blinds sometimes resting on the plugs. I fiddled with all of them and got through a movie last night with no problem. I thought these things were shielded?
