Default Superman Returns

Love or hate it..I love it I kind of like it better than Man Of Steel. but i like to think of Returns as the "Final Chapter" in the Superman movie series. but would of loved to have a sequel to it.

What are your thoughts on Superman Returns?

it is a fractured movie with a decent love story in it. Just ordered the 3 movie BD set with this, Superman 1 and 2, hope it gets here by next weekend, MoS has me jonesing for more Superman, even if it's not as good as the Snyder film.

There is a lot more to love about Superman Returns as a film about Superman than there is to love about Man Of Steel as a film about Superman.

And, yes... I do like Superman Returns quite a bit. Don't know if I'd use the word "love" though.

Probably for the best actually. Anyone praising Superman Returns in the Man Of Steel tread gets called a troll and is chased out of there rather harshly.

I own it & love it, but only really loved the Superman stuff. Everything else was just bad IMO. Bosworth as Lois, Spacey as Lex & the kid... MOS has everything I've ever wanted to see in a Superman film.

Superman returns is the best film version of superman. It has flaws but overall the most impressive and satisfying superman film. It's a shame it didn't get a sequel

Superman returns was just alright. The same old villain and reasoning for his actions. The whole Lois bit with her superman bashing report didn't really make sense since she wouldn't remember Superman loving her and everything due to the kiss at the end of Superman 2. I did like the superman bits of the plane being saved, him listening throughout the world help, tossing the kryptonite island in space and stuff and smallville scenes. Brandon Routh did a good job with bringing Donner's incarnation of superman.

Bosworth was better as Lois than Kidder, who honestly other than the scene where she killed Ursa, never properly personified the gorgeous tough woman that falls in love with and marries the most well-known superhero of all-time.

Durance and Hatcher both did it better than her,
[Show spoiler]Amy Adams was decent in the role but I wish she had been given more to do most of the time than fall somewhere and have Superman save her. Granted she was a huge part of the reason the Kryptonians were eventually defeated but she should've been given more to do.
Oh well that's probably my only qualm with MoS and it's a small one that will probably be rectified in the sequel.

I could barely sit through the episodes of Lois & Clark that I watched, but Hatcher was good. And I think I've already said I loved Durance! Amy did great with what she was given. My favorite scene with Amy as Lois was the arctic segment.

How can Lois know Superman knocked her up and yet not know he is Clark?

It's fun little errors like that that people who call this the best Superman film ever have chosen to ignore.

She does know. That's what she whispers to him at the hospital. She has his kid.

I remember leaving the theater after watching Returns and having a smile on my face. It has a touching love story and some beautiful moments.

I have a feeling the kid sealed its fate in regards to any sequels.

The problems with the film start with how invincible he is. For Man of Steel Zach Snyder had a list of weapons and objects and how Superman would react if he got hit by any of them. In Superman Returns he takes a large gatling gun to the chest and never flinches. He takes a 9mm to the eyelid and never flinches. The problem is when you make him that strong the only way to hurt him is with lame kryptonite. At that point your options for giving him a decent fight and story become very limited.

Kevin Spacey came off to me as a big jerk. He wasnt a funny crook like Gene Hackman. He just seemed like a mean thug in Returns. Not a shred of charisma.

I know people hated Kate Bosworth in the role. But my problem with her is not for one moment did she seem desirable. Why is Superman chasing this wretched woman? Its like the world's longest crush where at some point he should realize shes just not into you. In fact shes laughing at you. Somehow she managed to be less likeable then Margot Kidder's Lois Lane.

Brandon Rough was good as Superman, but he was stuck with dated, cheesy dialogue "Statistically speaking, its still the safest way to fly." Thats something a nerdy Clark Kent should say, not Superman.

I would rate it a 4/5, just not good enough to make a sequel, considering the kid etc. A nice conclusion to the First 2 Reeve films though.

The kid was a HORRIBLE idea, even though they were supposedly going to use its death in a sequel to make the character a lot more conflicted. Personally I feel Man of Steel was/is better than a sequel would've been anyway so I'm now more than okay with the 7 year wait till that movie but I already want a sequel.

He took a 9mm to the EYE and didn't flinch! lol I thought it was cool at the time, but watching that scene now makes me roll my eyes.

[Show spoiler]The 3 Kryptonians that fought gladiator style in Smallville in Man of Steel without really hurting each other all either had to duck when they got shot at or get annoyed by it. The missile they fired at Faora knocked her out which surprised me a bit but that may have had something to do with her reaction to Earth's atmosphere.

I guess in the MOS universe bullets are like bee stings.
