I have a feeling the kid sealed its fate in regards to any sequels.

The problems with the film start with how invincible he is. For Man of Steel Zach Snyder had a list of weapons and objects and how Superman would react if he got hit by any of them. In Superman Returns he takes a large gatling gun to the chest and never flinches. He takes a 9mm to the eyelid and never flinches. The problem is when you make him that strong the only way to hurt him is with lame kryptonite. At that point your options for giving him a decent fight and story become very limited.

Kevin Spacey came off to me as a big jerk. He wasnt a funny crook like Gene Hackman. He just seemed like a mean thug in Returns. Not a shred of charisma.

I know people hated Kate Bosworth in the role. But my problem with her is not for one moment did she seem desirable. Why is Superman chasing this wretched woman? Its like the world's longest crush where at some point he should realize shes just not into you. In fact shes laughing at you. Somehow she managed to be less likeable then Margot Kidder's Lois Lane.

Brandon Rough was good as Superman, but he was stuck with dated, cheesy dialogue "Statistically speaking, its still the safest way to fly." Thats something a nerdy Clark Kent should say, not Superman.

I would rate it a 4/5, just not good enough to make a sequel, considering the kid etc. A nice conclusion to the First 2 Reeve films though.
He took a 9mm to the EYE and didn't flinch! lol I thought it was cool at the time, but watching that scene now makes me roll my eyes.

[Show spoiler]The 3 Kryptonians that fought gladiator style in Smallville in Man of Steel without really hurting each other all either had to duck when they got shot at or get annoyed by it. The missile they fired at Faora knocked her out which surprised me a bit but that may have had something to do with her reaction to Earth's atmosphere.

I guess in the MOS universe bullets are like bee stings.

I have heard the current Blu-ray is disapointing in terms of technical specs, average sound etc. But for the movie it self, I was hooked, really brought me in to the universe. The kryptonite Island was for it's time quite epic, and I thought kevin spacey was very good, I've mentioned this here before but I thought Parker Posey would be my preference for Lois Lane, had a maturity about her performance, i thought she was great.

technically, I had no issues with the pacing or the action.

Parker Posey ruined the movie for me somewhat. She's so hammy.

I loved Kevin Spacey and Parker Posey hamming it up. (Posey in particular is one of my favorite actresses.) Almost all of the best comic book villains are large hams, in my opinion.

"Krrrrryptonite!"

a horrible horrible horrible portrayal of superman and to have tried to tie it to the original donner/lester films was a great idea but how they portrayed superman in returns made the tying to the originals a mockery

they should burn all prints of it

With such huge power levels theres always going to be inconsistencies. Nam-Ek is
[Show spoiler]blown back by jet machine fire
which to me was done more for visual effect then showing how much it really affects them

A couple of guesses from me on how weapons feel like or would effect Superman

Man of Steel Universe
handgun/machinegun bullets - flick of a finger
helicopter bullets - 1" rubber balls fired at 15mph
jet bullets -
[Show spoiler]Nam Ek's reaciton was overdramatized IMO, in this universe I think the effect is 2" rubber balls fired at 25mph

Cruise Missile - Being hit by 250lb linebacker (confirmed by Snyder)
Nuclear bomb - (not sure if he would survive or not - confirmed by Snyder)

Superman Returns Universe
handgun/machinegun bullets - dust particle
helicopter bullets - dust particle
jet bullets - gnat
Cruise Missile - Rain drop
Nuclear bomb - standing 3 feet from a small toaster oven

I doubt they would let a nuclear bomb kill Superman in any universe, considering Wolverine from Marvel can survive those and Superman is much stronger than Wolverine is.

I love Superman Returns, and I was greatly hoping for an expanded DC Cinematic Universe with the cast from Returns, it's a shame we didn't get to see a sequel to it.

Actually Superman Returns is the only Superman movie I like.
On the other hand, MOS managed to beat IM3 as the most disappointing film of 2013, it had so much potential.

I was bitter that Man of Steel was made as a reboot of sorts but I enjoyed it more than I expected to, however IM3 was a disaster to me. IM 1 and 2 are two of my absolute favorites and 3 was such a letdown.

I've always loved "Superman Returns." I enjoy the story line of Superman having to cope with living in a world that has moved on without him. I much prefer "Superman Returns" to "Man Of Steel."

Sorry, couldn't resist even though for the most part opinions cannot be incorrect.
