Right now, the only one announced, is Sleeping Beauty. It's coming out next year.

If anything maybe some more will get announced for next year, but that is just speculation.

Disney, and other studios, are making very little on catalog titles released for blu-ray. Its the day-and-date releases that people are buying. I find that dissapointing as most releases I am interested in are catalog titles, good new releases only come about 3 or 4 times a year IMO.

I dont believe its a 7 year cycle because i remember buying a handful of the vault movies within a 2 year span i believe. I think they are on a 8 - 12 month cycle. I suspect that sleeping beauty will come out and then itll be at least 6-12 months before another one comes out. AAnd by classic disney, we arent talking about finding nemo. Disney classics are aladdin, lion king, toy story, sleeping beauty, jungle book, snow white etc. They can take thier time with these releases because i want the best possoble PQ and i have no doubt disney can pull this off

Disney will typically release one Classic title in the Fall and one in the Spring. We just got Jungle Book on DVD and then in the Spring they are releasing 101 Dalmatians, then in the Fall again will be Sleeping Beauty, which they have already announced for Blu-ray. It seems they are coming a little more quickly than they used to because, they would only release one classic title a year, in the fall and then their newest annimated release would be on video in the spring, so they were releasing two a year, but since they really haven't had anything NEW, such as The Lion King in a while, this is the way I suspect they are going to be handling their releases.

When their original ad came out (make it blue!), you may have noticed:
Ten possible titles, and not a single 4:3 movie on the list...

(We're not going to get the classics until somebody can figure out screen-border standards for the rest of the industry, WB can get back on the horse, admit to all the other studios, okay, maybe there might have been other reasons Robin Hood and Casablanca "didn't sell" on HD, and that the public wasn't scared off by weird square movies after all.)

I know Sleeping Beauty will be the first next year- I'm not COMPLETELY sure of the others- but according tothe 7-10 year cycle- "Snow White" "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King" are probably going to follow- I think I saw a DVD re-releasef for Snow and BATB set for 2008 or 2009- So those could very well be the follow ups to Sleeping Beauty- I think tey're also titles listed in the "Disney Blu Ray" Promos on the DVD's. I thin there's a good chance that "Nightmare Before Christmas" may end up on Blu soon- Disney 'reclaimed" it as a "Walt Disney Picture" and pulled all the DVD's- so they could be putting it on the same cycle the "Platinum" and "Classic" films go through

See my post here for the full list of platinum releases, with approximate release timeframes.

But for those three:

Beauty and the Beast - 2010
Bambi -2012
Lady and the Tramp - 2013

None of those are official, but are decent guesses based on the current platinum release schedule.

I have to say, if Disney is going to take that long to release their movies - 2014/15 - they will loose quite a bit of money. They need to really speed things up. Disney is good, but not that good. Especially with all the double dipping they do with RE-RELEASES.

Yeah, but that's their whole concept. There top 14 animated classics are part of the platinum collection. In order to keep the titles valuable and draw up press with each release, Disney is releasing 2 of the 14 titles per year on a 7 year rotation.

You can't really complain that they're too slow in releasing films, and that they release films too often. Anyway, I would thnk most of their "other" films will be available long before the last of the platinum collection titles. And people care more about some of the other titles quite a bit... particularly the Pixar titles.

I got it, but I just don't understand why they keep them locked away and not being released any quicker. They are good, but how many times can they release Snow White?
