United Kingdom Mad Max Trilogy definitive? (p/q wise)

I *think* I remember there being a couple of BR versions of the first or second film - one good, one not so good or something like that so I just waited for the trilogy, having never owned any single ones. Is this new trilogy definitive picture wise now? Or is there some better import for a particular film? I seem to recall it being th first film UK release not as good as the US or AUS or something like that.

Also any word on the cuts? I read these contain cut versions or something? Are the full cuts on any other BR or is it a DVD thing?

Cheers !

Mad Max has never been released in the UK. Mad Max 2 was but had lossy sound. Mad Max 3 never released in the UK.

The old Mad Max 2 release had pretty good PQ for such an old budget film and I expect it will be the same transfer which will be fine with me.

Mad Max the US release is better than any other release. The Road Warrior re release is the best and beyond thunderdome is a new release.

I'm a bit unsure what you guys are saying? Does this set (assuming it's the same as the US trilogy discs that is) have the best P/Q or will I need single releases?

The UK box set will have the same discs as the US for The Road Warrior and Beyond thunderdome. The original Mad Max will be different to the US release.

Do you mean different to the US trilogy version or single release? Caps-a-holic shows comparisons between the US MGM release and German trilogy and they look identical to me?

So are you saying to have the best picture I will need the UK trilogy and the US MGM for MM1?

Yeah, but if you can't tell the difference in those caps you are better off just owning the UK trilogy.

Let's be honest, nobody could tell the difference in motion. The difference is so slight.
The biggest issue with the non-MGM release, would appear to be the audio.

Ok, P/Q wise I think the UK trilogy will do me then.

The audio issue, is this the orig. AUS vs US overdub (is it that bad?) you're talking about or bit-rate? Btw, when you talk of the audio, are you saying the UK / USA trilogies are the same, but you mean the orig. US release of MM1 is different to the trilogy?

I'm not sure which dub I've seen, I've only ever watched these on UK TV.

I believe that UK madmax has the US dub which is the Loss less audio track on the disk, and also has the original audio track but that is lossy, where as the US MGM disk the original track is lossless

I scanned the UK discs:
-------------------
Mad Max
1080p / AVC
BD-25
US Dub - DTS-HD MA 2.0 / Original AUS Track - Dolby Digital 5.1 (640kbps)
93 Minutes (Uncut)
-------------------
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
1080p / AVC
BD-50
DTS-HD MA 5.1
95 Minutes (Uncut)
-------------------
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
1080p / AVC
BD-50
DTS-HD MA 5.1
107 Minutes (Uncut)
-------------------

Video Bit Rate Comparison:
-------------------
Mad Max

US = 36.64 Mbps
AUS = 31.98 Mbps
UK = 24.94 Mbps
-------------------
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

US Remastered = 25.63 Mbps
UK = 25.63 Mbps
-------------------
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

US = 29.63 Mbps
UK = 29.63 Mbps
-------------------

The UK and US discs for Mad Max 2 and 3 appear to be identical.

The original audio for Mad Max is lossy multi-channel and the UK disc has been slimmed down to a BD-25 from a BD-50 (US/AUS). They reduced the vbr quite a bit. Not sure about the extras.

Both the US and AUS discs have the original audio in DTS-HD MA 5.1. They also seem to share similar high vbr transfers. The AUS disc lacks the US dub completely, which is included as a mono dolby digital mix on the US disc.

So, yeah, the UK Mad Max disc is a step down from the US and AUS discs, both in terms of PQ and AQ (if you prefer the original track).

25GB blu-ray? For Mad Max? Eh, that's enough to make you mad as hell.
