Given that the remake is coming out around then, I'm not surprised by this at all. It's one of my favorite films, so I'll be curious to see what new stuff it has (if any).

I've yet to pick up any of the past Oldboy BDs so I'm interested in this. It'd be nice if Lady Vengeance and Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance got separate BDs too.
Tartan posted this response about the Oldboy re-release on their Facebook: "We aren't saying no, we aren't saying yes. But we are definitely recommending you stop by the page tomorrow if you want more news." |

Awesome news! Great timing given the remake's release... but it is strange that this isn't coming out a couple weeks later, at least, since I think the remake was recently pushed back to November 25th or something. Thanksgiving weekend, I believe.
I hope this is really a 10th Anniversary worth buying, but I'll buy it regardless. Oldboy is an unbelievable film. |

I got the 3 disc tin DVD and the Vengeance Trilogy Tin. I simply took out the Oldboy BD and placed it in the DVD Tin but may bite on this release if the PQ and AQ are improved upon. Like others here, I'm a HUGE fan of this movie.

Hopefully there's something somewhat significantly different about this. I'd never expect new extra's (who in their right mind would? Lol) but I hope it isn't just a different cover.
Either a new remaster or as also previously mentioned, maybe separating the feature and special features which aren't audio commentaries to really let the film breathe. |

I noticed the stand alone has the movie, commentaries, trailer and deleted scenes on disc one, and all the other extras on disc two. The trilogy Oldboy has the movie plus hours of bonus features crammed onto one disc. I've never done a comparison since I always watch stand alone, but I'll do it soon as I'm wondering if the stand alone looks substantially better. |

And I really don't think we're going to see much improvement in the video quality, even with a new transfer. The current releases (standalone and trilogy) are both pretty faithful to how the film was intended to look. It was never supposed to be anything close to pretty. |

All that really needs to be done is a release with all of the Oldboy special features from both the standalone release and the trilogy set along with the 7.1 mix from the standalone release.
The way the movie is released now, neither the standalone release nor the trilogy release are exactly ideal. If you get the trilogy set to get all of the movies, you lose out on the 7.1 audio mix. If you get the standalone release, you miss out on a fantastic 3.5 hour documentary. Granted neither are in print anymore, but you get the idea. If the 10th Anniversary Edition doesn't include everything, then there's no point in releasing it again except to try to sell some more copies of it with the remake coming out. |
