Default Game of Thrones - which are the best versions worldwide?

Are the US the best? Or do other countries have better releases?

Best what? Price...packaging?

You can get seasons 1-3 boxset from Amazon UK for cheaper than in the US.

If you must have digital downloads, stick to the US version.

Neither really. I'm more interested in PQ, AQ and extras.

Looking at the first season US, Canada, UK, Australia, Spain, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Mexico all got the same release*, with Germany and Italy getting a different masters (only the German is reported to have English subs though - which are important as some dialogue is subbed).

*Finland has different specs, but I think that's just poor reporting rather than a new master

I should have known. Why does amazon uk keep doing that. Some of my box sets have slightly annoying uk packaging.

Are you suggesting Amazon UK increase it's prices? I think myself and a few others on the UK forum might have something to say about that...

Haha, and some of us in the US as well. I buy most of my big box sets from Amazon UK - not only do I often spend a fraction of the price of the US releases, but I also greatly prefer their packaging. UK releases don't take a big, important, pricey box set and then stick all the discs flat against cardboard for a the sake of a slightly slicker looking package. Star Wars, Indy, Alien Anthology - I bought all UK editions. The Friends one was great, as well - instead of an oddly large, shelf-taking-over box, it came in an awesome slick box with magnetic enclosure with real Blu-ray cases inside, fitting the whole series into the size of three paperback books, instead of the size of a coffee table one.

The ratings labels on the big box sets generally aren't that obtrusive, and I find that actually they make great conversation pieces as well. I don't mind them at all - I think they are kind of kitchy. Even if I did, though, considering I often pay 40-50% less on release day for the sets, plus I prefer the packaging - it's a wonderful deal all around. I pay even less than folks in the UK, since they also nicely take that VAT right off the top so I pay less than the advertised price. Can't think of a better case of win-win-win.

I just ordered this Season One set from Japan, which comes with a book, art cards, and a bonus disc.

And then there's this Amazon Season Three exclusive. I considered it, but it would never survive intact around my children.

I don't think any other region will best the US in PQ. Maybe match but not beat

I personally think the US discs with Best Buy Sigil Packaging are the best versions. Additionally, the Season One is the original release without the censored head on a pike shot.

What I hate are the cardboard foldout packaging. They're so bulky and I'm sure they will tear. The worst offender was the packaging for the Alien Quadrilogy. That thing was almost five freakin' feet long!!

I prefer the slim Blu-ray cases.

You know, I remember when that happened - I didn't know jack about the show, but I recall the price on Amazon wasn't bad at the time and I came thisclose to ordering it because I knew it was going OOP. Now that I am obsessed with the show, kicking myself.

Not that it's really that big of a deal - but I'd like to have it as a collectable.

Just curious, they didn't do the revision until the new packaging, right? So if you find the old packaging, it's the original version?

If you find a definite copy of the original packaging, it should be the uncut version.

The shot was a head on a pike when
[Show spoiler]Joffrey shows Sansa her nursemaid and Ned's heads
. In the background, they had re-used a head of George W. Bush from some other show. They mentioned it in the commentary which created the stupid removal in a later pressing.

I'm thinking storage these days, so the smaller package the better. I have series 1 & 2 in one big box & series 3 in another not so big box. I'll probably give them away to someone in the family & next year buy the series 1-4 set, each series in its own amaray case.

Ive got the original Season 1 UK (with George Bush - yes Ive checked! ), season 2 with the Amazon disc and season 3 with that dragon statue as it went a lot cheaper a few weeks back. That's good enough for me.
