Default Shrek sales take surprsing lead today at Target

I always work Tuesday mornings at my Target in electronics and I always make a point to count all the new blus/hd-dvds when I put them out and then when I leave at 4. We got in 17 shrek 3 hd's and sold 7 before I left! That's more sold than any blu or hd dvd in one day or even a week in my store. So... it made me a little sad/feel bad for the DUD-heads. But, we did sell a couple ocean's on blu and NONE on HD. So I guess that makes up for it, Shrek blows anyways =)

So it sold more than Ratatouille did on its first day? That's surprising.

They sold 7!?

I bought 16 titles this week alone. Should I ebay all my gear and blus now?

I bought 11 BLUs this week, so I'll account for another MASSIVE 7 sale day.

Shrek 3 will sell a ton of DVDs. Parents buy them for the kids. I don't know if you are a parent of young children, but the theaters are also jammed when movies like these get released. The studios get the doubble dipping by the fact that at least one parent will be going along for the 2.5 kids in their family. Iv'e suffered going to sold out matinees. I was at CC today and there was a ton of parents gobbling up the Shrek DVDs. Nothing surprising about it!

Thats strange cause even on AMAZOn the Rat movie is still #1 and Shrek is #2 even on DVD. The Rat movie came out a week ago. Blu-ray version is #25 while Shrek is #63

i realize 7 isnt a large number, but for any hd format dvd right now at target that's quite a lot for one day. the regular dvd we sold like 400 copies of, I couldnt keep them on the shelf today. But yeah, I'm not worried there's been a massive amount of blu's sold in the past week especially on amazon with the buy one get ones.

So who wants that close encounters special edition???! If I'm not mistaken, this is the first "Deluxe edition" blu that comes with more than just the movie inside? Groundbreaking!

I would figure that is because Best Buy had the deal on Rat, Cars and Shorts. So they went there would be my guess.

I am.

We went on opening day. And then we got disappointed, which is why we weren't looking forward to Shrek the Third being released. It's not a must-have in my house.

Ratatouille and Cars were.

And so is HS Musical (I hate you so) and just about every other decent to great Disney title.

FYI, my kids were dying for Shrek 1 and 2.

I think it may be different at other Target stores. I say this because there are 3 different Best Buy stores that I frequent every week and 2 sell lots of Blu's where the 1 store doesn't move as many. It has a lot to do with location.

Anecdotal stories are meaningless beyond your own neighborhood. Shrek 3 has been lagging ever since it was listed at Amazon. Ratatouille will trounce the ogre.

If your store has never sold more than 7 copies of any hd release in a week then I think your store is a poor sampling as far as sales forecasts goes.

I know you didn't.

By the way, 7 HD-DVDs vs. 400 DVDs seem to be about par for the course for HD-DVD. HD-DVD/DVD ratio is generally about 1.5% (e.g., TF was 115k/8.3mil, or 1.38%, and 7/400 is 1.75%).

I wonder how many Rat DVDs sold at his place.

enjoy

Are you sure people didn't buy it accidentally? Or some pro HD DVD person buy all 7 to try to push Shrek the 3rd's numbers?
