Blu-ray Recorder Sales In The Lead
Author Hugo Jobling Published 26th November 2007 Despite the various statistics, graphs and comments coming from both the Blu-ray and HD DVD camps, it's fair to say that no winner is going to be decided in the HD format war for a while yet. Of course that doesn't mean one side or the other can't forfeit a few minor skirmishes. The latest battle to be conceded by the HD DVD Promotional Group, if the figures are to be believed is the recorder market. ![]() As the graph shows, sales of HD DVD recorders have remained fairly steady while those of Blu-ray recorders have grown considerably over the last year. Considering that HD DVD is by far the cheapest format going, it bodes well for Blu-ray: evidently consumers aren't particularly worried about cost or the ambiguous specification. Oddly there doesn't seem to be any particular reason why Blu-ray is gaining this huge lead on its rival. Admittedly HD recorders aren't the biggest market going to start with, but any victory is likely to be a welcome, especially if you include standard DVD in the comparison, the older format still claims over 80 per cent of total recorder sales. It seems that for all we in the TrustedReviews offices rave on about HD films and TV, the punters in the street who don't have the tech are still to be persuaded that they need it; which of course they undeniably do. http://www.trustedreviews.com/pcs/ne...In-The-Lead/p1 |

Oh shit. That is just hillarious. Where's the AVS spin? The best thing about Blu-ray is that it will never be obsolete because of the PS3 and the computer market.
Toshiba is a great notebook maker. You have to wonder when they are quietly going to start integrating blu-ray in their units as a quiet way of admitting defeat. |
