Default Preorders for ps3

I was thinking about how preorders for the ps3 would work and I may be a little off, but to avoid a console shortage, think about this. Sony has promised us 2 million units on launch day. We need 2 million preorders prior to launch day. The question is how many consoles does each territory get so that the number 2 million is divided as evenly as possible? Secondly, Sony has promised us 1 million consoles after November for 4 months going into next year. I think that what Sony might do is have retailers take a certain amount of preorders on a first come first serve basics. For those that don't want a ps3 on launch day, they may want one in december or january. I think that it would be best if retailers took in a certain amount of preorders every month and then gave the customer a note saying what month they would get a ps3. What happened with Microsoft is that they took in more preorders then they had consoles. Sony doesn't want to do this. Sony will need to pull an ace out to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible.

Sony are aiming for 2 million on launch day and another 2 million by the end of the year; 4 million in total. They believe they are on track.

As for the spread of consoles around the world? It won't be even, sadly, historically, Europe gets the lowest number of consoles.

I don't really care how many arrive in the UK, as long as one of them has my name on it..!

I wanted to add that on ps3land.com, at this time, there is an article that says Sony is on track for the ps3 launch. No commit on production has been mentioned so mass producation has begun. There is little time left for Sony to began rolling. The Tokyoto Game Show isn't until the last week of September so maybe preordes won't take place until late September or even October.

A slight update, on ps3land.com, Sony hasn't decided on the amount of consoles that each territory will get. September seems to be the month that Sony will get rolling with the ps3 production.

If we can preorder from September I would imagine those orders will determine where the consoles go.

No doubt they will be as fair as possible, but demand will be incredible.

True. I'm wondering what the annoucements at the Tokoyto Game Show will be about the ps3. I know that one of them would have to be about the online network, showing what the interface will look like. I've heard the other annoucement might be about a price cut. I know for sure that the ps3 is on track for launch so no delays. Maybe the other annoucement will be about preorders. I would guess that preorders would take place in September sometime. We would have to preorder in September.

I think TGS will show us everything we don't already know. It's the last opportunity Sony have to wow the trade side of things before they start advertising to the public.

I expect some exciting stuff, and considering I recently posted here that I felt almost indifferent to the PS3, I am beginning to get that "can't wait" feeling..!

September......I think I can agree on that.
According to EBGames, they tell me "sometime in September" for PS3 pre-orders.

September has to be the month for ps3 preorders. The Tokoyto Game Show runs in late September, but if Sony doesn't allow for preorders before that time, it gives them more time to think about how many consoles each territory gets. I'm thinking that Sony is going to address "avoiding a console shortage" issue. 2 million seems like a low amount, but then again some of us don't want to spend $500.00 to $600.00 on the console so it should be enough. A price cut might be announced. Other then the network interface, Sony still has to reveal the mystery item that will allow us to use our ps1 and ps2 memory cards. All eyes are on the Tokoyto Game Show. I know the ps3 will do well on launch day, despite what some might say.

October is what I keep hearing.

I've never heard of such a small and narrow timeframe for preorders. One month only before a simultaneous worldwide launch?

I know that you are anxious about the ps3. I am. Who wouldn't be? We have a new playstation on the way that will not only make our lives easier and more enjoyable, but the world of playstation is about to change as we know it. Enough said.

Smile Check out FYE

I walked into a fye store about two weeks ago and found that they where taking preorders for the PS3 already. I was third on the list for that store. It seems that they have been taking orders for months now. Most people are checking the games stores, and not places like this. If you have a FYE check to see if they are taking orders in your area.

I feel I have a good chance at getting one from there because everyone is checking the game stores, and the big box stores for preordering the systems.

They are up to 200 preorders in Atlanta. I think it's safe to say most of them will not be getting a first shipment PS3...LOL!
