Australia The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (March 21, 2014)

Been digging around for more details on our release for Catching Fire.

JB Hi-Fi have a two disc limited edition lenticular cover exclusive edition for $30 (think this price will eventually go up like it did for the first movie):

Quote:
Special Features:

Disc 1
Deleted Scenes
Audio commentary
Inside District 12: The Hob — A look at the citizens of District 12
The Alliance
Friend or Foe
One Vision

Disc 2 (JB Exclusive)
Surviving the Game: Making Catching Fire - Multi-part making-of documentary
A New Kind of Hunger
Visual Vocabulary
Stirring Things Up
Fashion Forward
Let It Fly
Moves and Countermoves
Tick Tock
Threading the Needle
The Revolution Lives
Sanity has the standard Blu-ray for $40

Quote:
Deleted Scenes
Audio commentary with director Francis Lawrence & Producer Nina Jacobson
Inside District 12: the Hob - a look at the citizens of District 12
The Alliance
Friend or Foe
One Vision
They used to also list the 9 part making documentary but I don't know why they removed it - guess it has become a JB exclusive. So unless their cover ends up being really ugly, seems like the JB edition is the one to get. Also it seems like "Inside District 12: the Hob - a look at the citizens of District 12" is an Australian exclusive special feature.

Unfortunately, Australia went from being the first region in the world to get THG on home media to one of the last to get CF.

You're also being ripped off on extras, that appear to be standard everywhere else.

Yes, I did actually read that. It appears that unless you buy it from JB HiFi, you're losing out on extras, that are standard elsewhere. Yes, the US Target exclusives features are on disc one, but the loss of the two hour documentary as a store exclusive, that's pretty significant, IMO.

Good (kind of?) news! Release date is now two days earlier for whatever reason, it's March 19.

Also got the opportunity to debut a new clip from the DVD: http://thgaustralia.com/2014/02/21/1245/

Some potentially bad news, I'm afraid:

1. That exclusive special feature is not exclusive anymore. Japan will have it.

2. According to the Japanese, this exclusive feature runs a tantalizingly long two minutes.

Granted, the JB HiFi version is somewhat cheaper (and much more so if you want the IMAX AR, which I assume will be on the general Aussie release), but the Japanese versions will have the film on its own BD-50, while the Australian version will have 46 minutes of extras on the film disc.

We shall discard the US/UK versions from Lionsgate, that are going to cram way over 150 minutes of extra features (the making of documentary alone runs 144 minutes) on the same BD as the 146 minute film.

I had zero interest in seeing these films until I saw mention of an IMAX version in the Japan Premium Edition listing. Once I learned that a huge amount has been shot with IMAX cameras, well, I have to see this (and obviously, the first film) now.

I think I'll buy the Disc 1 of the Australian release, and put that in with the UK steelbook that I ordered. Extras :P

My JB Exclusive set also shipped off today, though they charged me the original price ($38.99) when I pre-ordered it instead of the current price ($29.00). But thankfully they've refunded the rest when I told them.

So I received the standard Blu-Ray on Monday morning and I only got around to looking at it today but god am I disappointed. Maybe if you don't already have a copy of the US Blu-ray you might not be as disappointed but I'll list why.

- The Blu-Ray does not contain full frame IMAX footage
- The menu is crap, it's a small cut out version of the much better US menu
- A Look At District 12: The Hob is just a standard special feature here, rather than being an easter egg and is CUT OFF right before the main point of the entire feature
- The disc is your standard blue Roadshow disc, looks ugly
- Everything is cluttered onto one disc rather than 4 disc like THG's

Getting the JB one tomorrow, hopefully it's better

Suddenly I will change my mind and not get this. I hate the standard Village-Roadshow logo disc. It is -- like some commercial branded generic No-frills branded Home brand product.

I wonder if the JB exclusive will have a different disc, doubt it.

Sure having some nice artwork on the disc is great, but not buying a movie, cause of what the disc looks like, is just stupid to me. How often do you look at the disc? It goes in your player, then back in the case.

Exactly. The disc artwork is not something to rate as a pro/con. The artwork on the case however is. The special features seem a let down but the JB Exclusive should be something extra. A shame theres no IMAX footage, but not something to lure me away by any means.

I went to pick up a copy this afternoon, but was told by the DVD manager at my local JB that they have been given instructions from Roadshow not to break the street date for this, which is a first in all my experiences with JB. Did anyone else manage to get their hands on a copy though JB?
