This is worth a read http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...n-9069558.html Sheldon Hall's book Zulu: With Some Guts Behind It is being revised for a new edition later this year. The original edition is excellent and now you won't have to pay the silly prices on Amazon for a copy

Hmm, that would be an option. Which vintage films have Paramount scanned at 4K? I can only think of Rosemary's Baby. And Zulu is only a UK property for Paramount. What they have is a 65mm preservation negative made from the horizontal 8-perforation 35mm Technirama camera negative. The 65mm neg was used for the Blu-ray. I assume that this was done in 2K. Zulu would look amazing in 4K DCP (higher would be even better!) so maybe Paramount are going that route. Here's hoping.

The closer we get to release date with no information, the more I think this is just a repackaged, if there was something new why wouldn't they be saying something? Hope i'm wrong but feels like another cynical marketing exercise!

I recently spoke with Sheldon Hall at Bradford WideScreen Weekend. He is of the opinion it is just a repackage job.

I have a small glimmer of hope that it could be the same transfer without the DNR. A new print is probably out of the question, but I assume they would keep a copy of the original unaltered scan somewhere before they sprinkle it with all that waxy magic.
To those in the UK, I would be very thankful for some reports! Alot of times it seems, at least for American blu-rays that were botched, the remaster slides under the radar and you really have to do the research to seek out the new version. |

So this is the same as the old disc with lossy audio and DNR?
I see that Paramount also released Zulu in Germany in Feb 2015. The amazon description states that it has German audio and subs which the original UK disc did not have indicating it is a new disc. It also says the English audio is DTS HD 2.0. Code:
Language: Deutsch (DTS HD 2.0 Mono), Englisch (DTS HD 2.0 Stereo) Subtitles: Deutsch, Englisch Region: Region B/2 (Read more about .) Aspect Ratio: 16:9 - 2.35:1 Number of discs: 1 FSK: Freigegeben ab 16 Jahren Studio: Paramount (Universal Pictures) DVD Release Date: 5 Feb 2015 Theatrical Release Date: 1964 Run Time: 138 minutes ![]() |
