Video Game Help

My little bro in 7th grade owns an XBox 360 and he spends the majority of his time playing Guitar Hero II. I don't know much about the game, but he claims he's the "best in his grade." Whatever. We got our home theater system this past Monday (TV, Receiver, BD Player), and since then the game-play has been f*cking up his universe. I connected his XBox 360 to the Receiver (model in signature) via Component Video and to the TV (model in signature) via HDMI (1.3). He claims there's lag. Every time he plays the game he takes advantage of the "calibrate" option in the game and says it has ranged from 2ms to 79ms. I'm pretty confused by what's going on. Anyone have any recommendations?
