Default House of Cards: The Complete Second Season - June 17, 2014

House of Cards: The Complete Second Season Blu-ray

Quote:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced the Blu-ray release of executive producer David Fincher and award-winning playwright and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Beau Willimon's House of Cards: The Complete Second Season. The critically acclaimed political drama stars Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Kate Mara, Michel Gill, Mahershala Ali, Rachel Brosnahan, Gerald McRaney and Molly Parker, and arrives on Blu-ray on June 17th.

Synopsis: The Underwoods (Spacey and Wright) continue their ruthless rise to power. New alliances form while old loyalties succumb to deception and betrayal. Francis and Claire must battle threats past and present to avoid losing everything.

House of Cards is executive produced by David Fincher, Beau Willimon, Eric Roth, Joshua Donen, Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti, Andrew Davies, Michael Dobbs and John Melfi. The one-hour drama is produced by Wade/Thomas Productions and Trigger Street Productions, Inc. in association with Media Rights Capital.

The 4-disc Blu-ray release of The Complete Second Season is presented in 1080p with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround. Special features include:
  • Two Houses: Exploring differences between the original show & the history of how this project came together.
  • Table Read: A behind-the-scenes look at table reads cut together with the actual scenes from the show.
  • Direct Address: Exploring the way Francis Underwood speaks directly to viewers in both the original BBC series and Willimon's new adaptation.
  • Politics for Politics Sake: Politics is only the back drop in this show, but the themes are universal. This featurette explores what the show is all about; relationships and power, not just politics.
  • Line of Succession: A look at the creative process that goes into making an episode.

Great news. The 2nd season was quite different from the first, but still very good in my opinion.

Glad to see this one has special features this time too

Good news this one has extras! Will probably wait for a price drop around the holidays.

Can't wait! It's so nice to have access to this show not long after Netflix and in better quality, I'm glad I can still watch without an account.

Was waiting for the BD release to watch...it's been very tough!

Does anyone know if S1 will be released with the newly released bonus material that streamed on Netflix? I held off buying S1 BD, in the hopes another non-barebones version would surface. So far it doesn't look like that will happen.

I also thought we'd see a re-release of S1 by now. I re-watched the show with the commentaries leading up to S2, and they were mostly great. Only one of the directors was a little boring, but I still learned a lot overall. Fincher was great as usual, and I also enjoyed Joel Schumacher's tracks.

Totally bummed about it! I love listening to Fincher, which is why I want these on the BD release. He's right up there with John Carpenter and Ahnold!

No audio commentaries on this season's BD release either. Looks like they're saving them for the eventual Complete Series boxset. Always bugs me when those sets include features you couldn't get buying the seasons one by one as they came out

There's an idea...maybe I'll just wait for complete boxed set, and rent the BDs, from Netflix, as they become available.

I'm not going to buy this unless Season 3 is better. I was disappointed in Season 2.

That's what I'd do. When the Season 1 set came out barebones, I was suspicious, when the commentaries were released to Netflix a month or so ago, I knew I was right to be. I would just bet there are a bunch of "making of" features created for season one that we'll see in the complete boxset.

For whatever reason did it seem like there was less buzz for the second season?

Definitely. But now it's not the only Netflix exclusive so that could play a part.

Absolutely love this show though.

This season has been outstanding, I have two episodes left that I'm saving for tomorrow. Can't wait to see the end, but don't want it to end. Bring on season 3 and hopefully a quicker BD release!

I just finished watching disc 3, last night...oh man is this show a treat!
The writing and the acting, all the way around, is fantastic!

Something I found interesting about the disc playback: when I inserted disc 2 & disc 3, they both jumped right into the special features? I had to go back to the Main Menu, and select episodes. Oddly this did not happen when I watched the first disc. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Certainly not a big deal, just thought that was odd. Hopefully I'll get a chance to watch the 4th disc tonight, perhaps I'll delete the BD file and see what happens.
Anyway, I can't get enough of this show...and the best part:
[Show spoiler]cufflinks!

Hmm that didn't happen to me, not sure why it would do that. Though I love the artwork on the packaging for both seasons, the disc holders for Season 2 have got to be the worst packaging I've ever seen for a Blu-Ray.

Interesting! Oh well, not a big deal...perhaps my PS3 knows how much I like extras!
Yeah the packaging while nice looking is pretty tight. What I did was take out all the discs and kind of pull on the sleeve covers. Not to the point of bending or tearing, but very close. That helped a little.
Of course I didn't see any scratches on the disc under a lighted lens, and they have all played flawlessly so far.

Thought season 2 was better than season 2, looking forward to owning them and watching them again, eventually.

Do you mean better than season 1?
