Lower than what most had figured considering I'd seen estimates of 200k to 300k but for a movie that has a target audience of a child it did rather well.

Pixar/Disney does an outstanding job of making a movie for a child only to put some adult content in there to at least make the adults enjoy it as well.

I dunno...I never really commented on the Rattatouille numbers...and I never really expected them to do that well...

and when I say that...I mean compared to SM3....

70k sounds about right...

I kinda taught it would sell really good. Oh well, maybe pirates will brak Transformers record, or 300 record which ever way you look at it that has the record now!.

Perhaps. By Sony's figures Spidey coupled with the boxset broke Transformers estimated figures. No one really knows outside the industry what the true numbers from either are sadly.

The important thing is that films like Ratatouille and Cars will broaden the Blu-ray demographic to include families with children. Now if only they'd start putting out some classics...

They should have displayed this info, that way the hd-dvd guys can stop claiming they own the #1 record holder HD title to date.

The numbers could be misleading. The official release date was supposed to be Nov. 6, yet some of the major electronic stores in houston, tx had started to sell them on the Fri before, so, some of the numbers could have counted toward the week prior to the official release.

If that would have had any meaningful effect they would have shown up in the top 10 and it didn't.

Nice. I do want to see Finding Nemo, my favorite though I wouldn't consider a classic just yet.

Not sure about Pirates... it should at least sell as many copies as they've sold for the 1st two installments (somewhere around 80-90K by now?).

Can't see it doing really huge numbers beyond that, given it was generally the least loved movie of the series.

Probably it will end up in the same ballpark as Spiderman 3.

True. But if we trust Sony's numbers, 135k Spiderman 3's sold, which (correct me if I'm wrong, as this has been the topic of some debate) doesn't include the box set. Nielsen had SM3 at 100%, and SM:THDTrilogy at 71.95. So, to figure the number of Sm3s sold altogether:

135000+.7195(135000)=232,132 copies of SM3.

This sounds awfully high, so maybe my math is off, but if true, I find these numbers quite interesting.

*this article http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/11/08...ts-first-week/
alleges that the SM3 numbers do not include the box set. I don't know their source.

**EDIT**: Sony insider Paidgeek confirmed that the 135k number included boxed sets. Thus, my entire post above is inaccurate and should be disregarded. Thanks all!

I bought my copy of Ratatouille, Cars and The Disney/Pixar Short Films on day 1. I did my part and others I am sure did theirs. If the numbers were not as high as we had hoped we can't go around feeling disappointed. The title will continue to see well throughout the season especially with those folks who only can have their Disney fix on Blu-Ray. I expect the numbers to grow for X-mas.

I like to think the parents are holding off buying Ratatouille and waiting as Christmas gifts. Spiderman 3 is crazy, though, Sony claimed they shipped 400k units, and I believe that, my nearest Best Buy has over 100 Blu-ray copies on the shelves, compared to Ratatouille which has a grand sum of 5 on the shelf.

I was very surprised by the numbers for Ratatouille. I too thought they would be very high, but I was so wrong and now I feel so much shame...I can hardly bear it at times...(sniff sniff)...I'll be ok though.
