the image will be just like every other player out there - with everything being digital, there's just no room for differences in how it is processed anymore.

im more curious about the interface and features

I'd like to see an impartial review of the image quality though. As for the interface, yeah, similar to PS2 and PSP but as you're using a pad to control it that's fine.

I'd like to see a dedicated remote though. Hmm, will the PSP double as a remote for blu-ray playback? Probably, so no need to bring up the onscreen graphics to navigate the movie, the PSP will display them?!

Yes, the PSP will be able to be used as a remote.

Blu-Ray play back on PS3 will be similar to DVD playback on PS2. Heck they gota make a reason for people to buy the $999 standalone Blu-Ray players.

At the time of its release the PS2's playback quality was comparable to standalone DVD players. People don't realize how much better DVD players are now then they were in the last 90's.

What is this bizarre connection some people seem to have with PS2 DVD playback and PS3's blu-ray playback?

The two have absolutely nothing in common. Get over it!

We'll know at the Tokyo game show what the playback is like, I imagine every feature of the PS3 will be demo'd, so we should know for sure.

Why do so many make the assumption that as the PS2 was an "ok" DVD player, that the PS3 will be the same for blu-ray.

So in the 6 years since PS2 was launched, nothing will have changed..!??

When's the Tokyo game show?

I fully expect PS3 to be put front and center along with Sony's stand alone player in two weeks at CEDIA. I will be there with my digital camera in hand taking what I can for photos. But, you better believe I will be looking at PQ for PS3 as one of the most critical pieces there.

I'm really hoping they will be running PS3 Blu-ray right next to the stand alone player Blu-ray output as well... both on the new XBR2 SXRD displays at 1080p... THAT would be my first indication of how good it looks.

I do expect that the user interface with PS3 will not be that great, but we'll see.

Then we should know the week before that for sure at CEDIA. I would think Sony would try to focus on the gaming aspect of the PS3 at most gaming related conventions and would focus more on the BD feature set at CEDIA and other more theater based events.

Either way, the end of the wait is almost at hand!
