Default New PS3 - Need help With Initial Setup

Hi all -

I just brought home my first blu-ray player, a PS3 40gb. I need a little "hand holding" for the setup.

I have a JVC projector that supports 1080/24, and a wireless router. I'm a little intimidated at setting up the PS3 with the router, and also what to select for the "RGB" and "Superwhite" settings. I'm using HDMI and the optical out (my receiver does NOT support the newer audio formats.)

Also - If I insert a blu-ray movie in to the Ps3, will it start playback automatically, or is there a menu to deal with?

If anyone can just give my the basic settings for my system I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

I would use the RGB setting as the colors look much deeper and better. As for the Superwhite it sems to make the whites pop out a little bit more not much differance. Although you may need to adjust the brightness on your tv cause sometimes things can look a bit too dark with the RGB on. If you go to blu-ray settings you can turn the auto playback on or off. Once you set up the router you will really dig the PS3 wi-fi set up. Just make sure your PS3 is getting a good signal 90-100 for your wi-fi.

In all honesty, relax because the PS3 is very easy to setup. Just make sure you connect the PS3 to your wireless router right away, in order to get the firmware updates that will greatly enhance the functioning of your PS3.

If you have questions after you have the firmware updates, then ask specific questions. There are several good threads that already exist about the RGB and SuperWhite settings. I'm sure they'll help you out.

ditto, I was surprised at how easy yet complex the ps3 is =) Nothing's really "hidden" and should be easy to find for you. I'd set up your wireless internet on it first and then do a system update quick to get all of the added things that aren't on the unit as of now, then go from there =)

Thanks for the info, guys.

Another question: My receiver doesn't have HDMI, so I;ll be using the optical output. Should I choose "Bitstream" or "LPCM"?

if you dont have hdmi, you wont get any decent lpcm. So I think you should stick to bitstream for the time being. If I'm wrong guys, please correct
