Default Onkyo 605 problems and profile 1.1

@ Insiders..

Few things on my mind lately, one of them already being discussed which is adding DTS HD-MA to the PS3, but that's the least of my concerns.

Since the beginning I have connected my PS3 via HDMI to my Onkyo receiver, and everytime I play a movie it does a very, very LOUD "POP" over my speakers aswell as my subwoofer.
It's so loud, sometimes it feels like I'm having a heart attack

It's really not funny anymore. When is Sony going to address this problem? We've been through various firmware updates for quite a while now and it's still there! It's annoying as hell

Second:
Word is movies like Resident Evil: Extinction, Sunshine, War and 3:10 to Yuma are using Profile 1.1. Because players need built in chips to be compliant it's certain people would need to buy new players to enjoy those new features. However, the PS3 might be the only player capable of adding Profile 1.1 through a firmware update thanks to its Ethernet connection and the power of the Cell processor. IF the PS3 is unable to upgrade to 1.1, will those movies be playable like others or will we end up with a player that's actually not as future proof as "promised"?

I'm not an insider, but from what I have read here, worst case scenario will be that the movies will play fine, but you won't be able to use the "bells & whistles" features on 1.1 compliant discs if the PS3 is not 1.1 compliant.

I am not an insider, but I know some good power conditioners with "on/off" delay switches should help with that. If you are plugging direct into a wall or a surger protector you can expect that popping. You need a power conditioner.

That is my recommendation, others may have other opinions on power conditioners, but I love them.

Word on the street is that the Profile 1.1 PS3 F/W upgrade is coming around Dec. 14th. The PS3 will be upgraded to profile 1.1, no matter how much other people doubt it to be true. This has been said by numerous high-ups at SCEA, as well as Mr. Stringer.

Any options that are not 1.1 compliant will be greyed out

PiP at least for Sunshine, probably for all 1.1 titles available as a stand-alone play option for all non 1.1 players

1.1 is an EXTENSION, not a new deck, 100% backwards compatible

Not an Insider, but since it doesn't happen to my Denon AVR (4306), I'm inclined to think this is something Onkyo needs to fix.

I do share your desire for DTS-HDMA decoding, though, as well as 1.1. My question for any insider is that is there any reason why the PS3 couldn't skip 1.1 and go straight to 2.0? The ethernet and persistent storage already qualify the PS3 for BD-Live...

The problem is not from the PS3. The problem is from your Onkyo. Contact Onkyo for more info. In other threads, there seems to be a firmware upgrade to the Onkyo that can fix this popping problem.
