Default Beginning audio system help

I am moving up to a Bravia XBR4 46 or 52 in a few weeks and am looking at sound systems to go with it.
I will be pretty broke after the tv for one thing lol, also it is a pretty small apartment so I do not need alot of power or anything special.
I was reading about this one:
Link

And according to a cnet review it does not pass audio via HDMi.
Is this a deal breaker?
I am looking for an inexpensive 7.1 or 5.1 system for an apartment so I am more interested in clean and dynamic sound over heavy bass and raw power.
1080p HDMi 1.3 pass through I suppose is the only really important factor, I do not need a built in dvd player obviously ( though it wouldn't hurt for cds or whatever but it is easy enough to pick up a dirt cheap cd changer )
I have the PS3 as my main, 360 Elite also (w hd add on), have the wii too but it is a non issue as far as this goes.
Would rather get an all in one set much like the Onkyo just for ease of set up and then I can always swap speakers out here and there but not a must.
Price ceiling is 500 though 400 is more comfortable considering again it is an apartment.

Your link doesn’t work but any of the Onkyo Amps are great but if you can afford it the 805, 875 or 905 are great because they come with Burr Brown DACs which really make a difference but I know here in the UK we have a magazine called what Hi-Fi and the 605 got Amp of the year 07 for being a great all rounder for the price

Fixed the link but yeah it looks like it is not what I need.
From what I can tell the Onkyo TX-SR705S is probably going to be the cheapest way into what I want.
THX, Dolby true HD, and HDMI 1.3
Essentially I am in the middle of moving again so funds are limited and once I am moved in I will be stuck with what I have for a while lol.

Ok new part of the question.
I am probably going to just go with a boxed home theater set for now to start, but am rather confused.
We know the PS3 does hdmi 1.3, as does the xbr4 that will be the tv.
I also have an HD cable box and a 360 to deal with.
Since the receiver will be lower end and not be 1.3 hdmi I assume I will go hdmi from ps3 to the bravia and then optical to the receiver and then hdmi from the hd cable box and hdmi from the 360?
