Default Zoolander sequel is coming!

http://www.moviefanatic.com/2014/09/...u-will-return/

Quote:
As we previously reported, Justin Theroux said there’s a script for Zoolander 2, and shooting should begin in the next year if all goes well. It’s not clear who will direct, but it appears that the man behind the title character, Ben Stiller, could also get behind the camera to helm. That would certainly be a departure from his last directorial effort with The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

And now we know another who will be back too -- Will Ferrell’s Mugatu!

I hadn't seen a thread about it yet, and I apologize if there's already one, but this is some very cool news!!

Zoolander is like the epitome of niche cult material, but there is so much quotable stuff, either visually, dialogues, or both in the first (like Mystery Men), that it 'd be hard not to be excited, specially if Stiller and Ferrell are indeed involved.

Zoolander was a fluke--funny and enjoyable despite itself.

I'm not convinced they can do it again. I hope so, but I'm not sure its possible.

I hated this movie. For me the joke was that the Zoolander character had only one face and Ben Stiller himself ... Well. On the other hand, can't blame the fans for being enthousiastic. And I'll just skip it ... Or not?

I never thought this movie was that funny. Even in a stupid kinda way. Maybe a laugh or two. But that's it. I'm happy though for those who liked it.

One of my favorite comedies of all time.

Why does the quote seem surprised that Stiller might direct? He directed the first film.

And The Cable Guy, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty...

I'm not saying he's bad at stuff--I like Ben Stiller, for the most part. I'm just saying that the source material was already stretched thin for the first one, and I'm not sure it could work again.

Remember, this character was created as a comedy bit for VH1. This would be an SNL bit turned movie if the bet was on SNL. IMHO, it's a fluke it worked the first time.

I enjoyed the first one though, and I'll no doubt watch the second. It's just that I really have a hard time believing that they'll be able to pull it off again. And the jokes in the movie do start to get a bit stale towards the end.
