Default New to the forum and blu...

I have been on the fence since the whole Blu/HD-dvd war began. I had pretty much stopped buying SD dvd's (down from around 10 a month). I was waiting for one side to win. I was close to buying blu when Paramount went HD-dvd exclusive. Then I decided to wait. Then I heard about the Walmart deal where you get 10 free blu-rays with a PS3 purchase. Luckily, I was able to get in on the deal and now own a PS3/blu-ray player.

I regularly visit the AVS forum. And its funny to read posts here and there. Its like two completely different views of the situation. Here Blu has all but won. On AVS HD-dvd has all but won. I know both sides are guilty of being overly boastful. It still amazes me how divided the videophile community has become. Its the video civil war...brother vs brother.

ps-I was really shocked at Paramount going exclusive.

Welcome to the forums and you've definitely made a smart decision - I wish I could have taken advantage of that 10 free offer - I guess I'll have to live with my 5 free.

And yes, while I'll agree that we are boastful as well, it's hard not to be when we are winning in just about every way right now. Standalone player sales are hard to judge as there were definitely some PS3s sold mainly becuase of the blu ray drive (like the one sold to me for example)

Will that be the Second coming of Elvis then? I don't have the link or anything, but my buddy in Walla Walla swears that Elvis and Morrison are working at the local car wash.

Default Help with codecs

Hi

Sorry for hijacking the thread I'm not allowed to start my own?

I'm after the Run Lola Run bluray

Do I purchase the UK 2008 version in MPEG AVC or

Do I purchase the recent 2011 German Import in VC 1

Which will give me the best picture/sound quality

Any guidance appreciated

Thanks M

Hello awesome users!

As a newbie who is still exploring your awesome site, I gotta ask, do people swap Blu-rays on here a lot? I'm after a kind of pen pal to swap stuff with, specifically for country specific released stuff. I'm a resident of Britain, so am more than happy to purchase a new Blu, for example the New Aladdin steelbook, and post it it reliable packaging if someone else is wanting the same, but say from Canada or Germany etc etc.

Is that done on here? Does anyone reccomend someone who would trade and not just be a screw over?

Thanks guys! (I LOVE this site btw)

I'm still a newbie in a lot of ways since Feb. I've never traded or swapped w/ anyone as of yet, but since I saw u r from Britain, I am very interested in your detective crime dramas( u all do them the best IMO). Such as, A Touch Of Frost(I have all 15 seasons on DVD) I want to get DCI Banks(I noticed I can only get them in region 2, been looking at amazon.co.uk however I have never bought from them) blind bought The Sweeney have yet to watch it! Seen Rosemary & thymes, Prime Suspect, Blue Murder, etc.

Do u enjoy those kind of programs?

On a side note I have every Gerry Anderson related shows on DVD(such as, UFO, Space 1999, Stingray, Thunderbirds, etc.) do u enjoy his shows?

I've got to say, its very hit and miss. Really enjoy Stingray and Thunderbirds though.
If you like our cop/detective dramas/comedys, check out Sherlock with Cumberbatch: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1475582/?ref_=sr_1 and Life on Mars with Simm and Glennister: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478942/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
They also did a follow up series 'Ashes to Ashes'. Terrifically funny detective tales.

And thanks Madlost1, I'll do a search for that now.
