Default ps3 vs. other players or both

I wanted to know if people owned a ps3 as their bd player or a standalone or both or two standalones or are you still waiting for the price to come down a little?

I also just like polls. I try to vote on all the ones I come across. Anyone feel the same way?

I use my PS3, but I have a standalone on the way. I will then just use the PS3 mainly for games.

I use my ps3 as my blu-ray player right now but plan on getting the panasonic dmp-bd30 in a few weeks along with the onkyo 705 so I can finally hear the sweet goodness of uncompressed pcm and dts-hd ma.

but ps3 owners don't realize it's a BD player

1 HDTV so ps3 is good enough for now.

PS3 only, the only reason I would get a standalone is if they don't ever update it to support DTS-MA.

I'm with sj001. I'm thinking the update is inevitable, though. Still, a standalone player would be nice when the price is lower. I'd buy one now, but I have no funds.

Researched Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD for several months earlier this year and back in March, 2007 I made the plung and bought a PS3. I love this system. I'm was not really into video games, but I love the Blu-Ray player, I love that I can download pictures from my Sony digital camera and watch them, I love that I can import my cd collection and playback with great sound. I love that I can email friends that I've met on here. I'm going to get into gaming more. I purchased Rainbow Six Vegas, I want to get Haze when it comes out. If this unit had a built in receiver that would be all you would need. Maybe thats something for Sony to think about a 7.1 channel receiver built into the PS3 and speaker connections. That would be sweet. Better yet, make the speakers blutooth campatible and you don't need wires... What do you think?

I use a PS3, and since my vision degraded to the point that I had to give up video games somewhere around 1997-8, I only use it for movies. But again, PS3 owners don't use it for movies, right?

I have been considering looking into whether or not the remote on a standalone like the new Panny player would be easier for me to memorize and manage than the bluetooth PS3 remote, but since I need a new reciever, I won't likely switch to a standalone anytime soon.

I would think the game controller would be ideal for you then.. since your fingers fall naturally to the main controls and it's easier to distinguish by feel. Have you tried it?

Haven't tried that. Can you do things like switch the audio track with the game controller?

Chris

I won't get a standalone until they come in multi-disc flavors (i.e., 5-disc players). Though I'd really love a jukebox so I never have to load a BD again, just pick the movie and play. Create my own VOD.

You can access the pop up menu on th disc via the square button. That allows you to select Dolby, DTS etc. or subtitles .

Or the triangle button brings up the PS3's internal overlay where you can select the language, subtitles.

Does the remote have dedicated buttons that cycle thru?

Yes, it has an audio button that allows you to cycle through the available soundtracks. Of course, I am still hoping for an added feature that allows me to prioritize my soundtrack choices and have the PS3 automatically select the best soundtrack. If they added that, I would probably never switch.

You could make a suggestion to Sony or perhaps Paidgeek in the Insiders thread.. to use the directional pad for these functions..currently they don't do anything and it would be a great use for them .. the semantics match nicely.
