Default HD-DVD could start getting really desperate.

Is anyone getting worried that HD-DVD is getting so desperate that might be willing to offer everything to stay in the game at this point?

What are they going to offer? They are already basically giving people money to take a player. They've tried having all kinds of sales on discs. The already offered bribes to Warner.

What, exactly, do you think they are going to do now that they are "desperate"?

All of this is ignoring the fact that they've been in desperation mode for months. :P

Well, here's the thing, what else can they realistically offer?

A free sexy supermodel that will do whatever you want (except sex) for a new A-3.

I would go for the A-3 but the sexy model must let me have sex anyway I want with her (then later on i'll return the A-3 and get its worth in Bluray discs

Again realistically. It's silly. About the only thing that comes to mind is a bribe to release certain titles NOW. But even then, those 'blockbusters' aren't going to really be selling movies hand-over-fist versus the new releases, and of course, it would encourage the other side to do the same [hence fostering lots of unfun bad will all around].

Just want to add in, my view, as to the best way for the DVD Forum to 'win this war' is to market the interactive/ethernet features heavily. Push the actual advantages the format has, and get people interested in them, as more than a talking point.

I don't know what to tell you. They lost money by bribing Paramount. Selling their players at a loss and giving away almost 10 movies with each player. They have to pay the studios for the discs at least.

What about this:

Buy any HD-DVD at $10, and get any HD-DVD player for free!

Could?

They just had a fire sale and still got their butt kicked in the Nielsens weekly.

Desperate is not only their friend, it's their lover!

They even got a mobster... (ahem)... okay, not a real-life mobster, but he did portray one on The Sopranos, to promote HD DVD. I don't think that really did much of anything for the format.

Toshiba is losing and losing hard......but it wont give up.....its like the opening sequence of goodfellas where the guy is dying but still asks for mercy and life......and gets 5 bullets in his a**.......finally dies.......HD DVD is dying, but it will die when Sony puts all the sudios under its belt.

Audience... "boo, boo"

Wow, darkpoet...looks like the audience wants a better deal.

Tell ya what folks, if you act right now... You won't pay $300 for the player, not $250, not $200. Not even $98.

If you call in the next 10 minutes, it will be just five easy payments of $9.99. That's right, we are practically giving them away. And don't forget to ask your operator about are free waffle maker.

Seriously. The only major weapon the HD DVD camp has is price. If BR players were "selling themselves" at the same prices, there wouldn't even be a "war." Toshiba and camp have done all they could do already. Drop player prices to dirt, buy off Paramount, and more than likely, tried to bribe Warner.

All while Blu-ray continues to outsell HD DVD in the US by at least 2-1 and simpy dominate world wide. Mark my words, unless the HD DVD folks are able to get Warner exclusively (which I highly doubt), BR will be the clear winner by summer '08.
