Unhappy Disc Read Issues?

So I'm going through the Blu-Ray Die Hard set, put in With A Vengance, and now my PS3 won't read ANY disc. I had switched to the special features to watch the alternate ending, and the PS3 started having issues reading the disc. After that it won't read anything. I have tried different discs, had it shut off and unplugged for a while, and made sure the firmware was up to date (which it was).

What else can I try?

Did you try restoring all the factory defaults? Only thing I can think of. There's an option to reset everything in the settings menu.

lets get things straight. a person with 5 posts complaining about a ps3 not reading disks is hard to believe. me thinks your a troll. if its true then your one in a million cause that shouldnt happen at all. send the ps3 in and get it repaired.

So how many posts, pointless or not, do I need to make before I'm not a troll in your opinion? All electronic equipment is capable of failing, regardless of how well it's designed.

I'm going to try a restore first. Don't really have any info on there anyway.

If the restore or hardware reset doesn't work, you could also try a DVD cleaner disc, maybe something go in there. Otherwise I would try contacting Sony on that.

While the PS3 may have failed while watching Die Hard, do not jump to the conclusion that Die Hard killed your PS3. More likely it was pure coincidence.

a lil ironic that the PS3 that is known for its low failure rate (compared to the 360) would stop working while playing Die Hard....hhmmm....

One of my first posts here not so long ago was about my PS3 and/or TV freaking out when trying to play game demos. I got some helpful suggestions, none of which panned out. The restore did.

I wasn't accused of trolling.

I will be so glad when this format war is over.

I'm not blaming blame Die Hard, I just felf like stating what I was doing. Anywho, I tried the settings restore first, then a quick system restore. Neither of those worked. I'm going to try a full system restore even though I don't think it'll matter. I want to try all I can before sending it in. It's estimated time was 3 1/2 hours, so it'll be a while.

I did try using a blu-ray game, and a standard DVD, and neither would load. Doesn't even sound like the disc is spinning, but I've never had my ear down by the player. Maybe it's always that quiet.

Anyone know if Sony's turnaround is pretty good?

I'm sure this isn't the case, but do you touch the bottom of the disc when putting it in the tray...a fingerprint can cause the laser to not read. Like I said I don't think it's the problem, but I wanted to try to be helpful.

No, I try to be really careful. Now, if I had let my sister borrow my setup you would probably be right. My 10 year old CD's look newer than her recently purchased stuff.

I've got one of the 60GB versions. I assume that's what you're asking...

Just curious, what type of PS3 do you have?… I have the 60gb and it makes a spinning sound (not loud but you can tell it’s reading the disc) once in a while when it's changing tracks, example from the main menu to the movie. I just don’t know about the 40gb and the 80gb in terms of quietness, I heard 40gb is a real whisperer.
