The Weinstein Company will wait until the weekend after Oscar nominations are announced. They're using the same release schedule as The King's Speech.

It was my understanding that that film already has expanded on Christmas week/weekend. Unless there really are no theaters in your local area showing it. Pretty much all the ones around me have it now. But then again, we never got a proper release of Whiplash, and I live near one of the most popular cities in the country, so who the hell knows what goes on anymore with these studios?

Edit: I see jscoggins brought up a valid point. Forgot they did that for The King's Speech. Makes sense they would repeat that strategy this year.

I could be wrong, but I would imagine half to most people interested in Imitation Game will have already seen it by then. There were large crowds in my theater during Christmas weekend, and with the slow first few weeks in January, they'll continue to catch up with the film.

I think American Sniper will have the edge when it comes out, along with Inherent Vice and of course, Taken 3.
