Hello all -
I'm in the market for a 40"-42" flat panel for my bedroom/home theater. Originally wanted to buy a 55"-60" sxdr but that's not gonna happen. So I've been looking into a flat panel plasma or LCD. I've narrowed it down to the following: Panasonic TH-42PZ77U or 42PZ700U plasma Sharp Aquos LC4264U LCD Sony KDL40V3000 LCD. I know there are pros and cons to each tv. But if I can get one (whichever) for the same price which would be the way to go? I've read up on the different sets and know about "motion blur" on lcd and the "burn in" of plasma but of these which would be my best bet. I plan on getting a Panasonic BD10ak blu ray too so it will mostly just be used to watch dvds...maybe a little regular tv. and I'll be sitting about 6-7 feet away. Anyway, any help here would be appreciated Thanks in advance Solo Last edited by SoloJedi; 12-01-2007 at 07:34 PM. |

Sony.
http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/new...spx?ID=2007228 "37- to 49-inch HDTV Segment The Sony BRAVIA LCD series ranks highest in customer satisfaction in its segment with a score of 815 on a 1,000-point scale and performs particularly well in picture and sound performance; features; and appearance and styling. Following the Sony BRAVIA series in the segment rankings are the LG LCD series and LG Plasma series, achieving scores of 799 and 794, respectively." Never seen motion blur before. I wonder if that's like attach rates speak for plasma salesmen. |

42PZ700U imo. Or obviously a pioneer if you want to cough up the dough. BTW burn-in isn't really an issue anymore.
What do you mean by regular TV, standard def? Last edited by cleric; 12-01-2007 at 10:08 PM. |

Why not consider a SAMSUNG? They are top of the line LCD's for pretty good prices. Take a look at the:
Samsung LN-T4061 Samsung LN-T4065 Samsung LN-T4071 I have the 4065, its an excellent TV, also have the Samsung BD-P1400 Blu-Ray player. |

I had the same 3 choices a month ago and went with 2 different Sharps that out within 2 weeks.... After going to Best buy fot the 3rd time in a month I got the Sony Bravia and it's awesome..... Put the Sharp to shame big time ! Never tried the Panasonic but I heard they are great as well.

I saw the panny and sony ths weekend and both look great! The only problem I see with the plasma is the "burn in" deal. The owner's manual as well as reviews state that fixed images should be avoided to avoid burn in..my thing is, almost ALL channels now have their logo fixed on the lower right hand corner of screen or something similar..how will that NOT cause burn in?
also, i had a few people tell me about "America's number 1 sellin LCD"...Vizio. Seems to have very good reviews...of course i'm talking about their "higher" end model GV42LF. BTW thanks for all your inputs |

Simple suggestion,
If this is for a room with a lot of light, and for daytime watching, go for the Sony. They are far and away the best LCD you can get on the market. LCDs don't lose color or intensity the way a Plasma will in a bright room. The bright Lamp and Matte screen will make daytime TV watching extremely enjoyable. I almost ended up with one of these myself. Although the 40V3000 is only a 60hz screen, meaning it doesn't handle quick motion as well as the XBR KDL-40XBR4 which is both 1080p and 120hz, although the price of the XBR series is a bit much. If this is for a room where you can control the light, ( like my set-up) Go for the Panasonic 42PZ700 or 42PZ77. I have the PZ700 and I couldn't be happier. Its big brother, the 50PZ700 was number one on the Consumers reports recently, and deservedly so, IMHO. In the electronics store I work at, I'm exposed to almost all the major brands of flat panel TVs available today, and the Panny just seems to have the most realistic looking image of anything out there. There are others with more saturated colors, or artificially enhanced brightness and contrast. They sure stand out, but I found too much detail was missing. Even when tweaking the picture settings to a professional level, the other plasmas just don't compete with the Panasonic for realism and picture detail. If it is an LCD you want, Sony wins this market hands down. Out of any other LCD the Sony's color, and contrast are as close to real life as it can get. I will always choose realism in my image over other artificial settings. To sum-up my 2 cents. Bright Room = Sony, Dark Room = Panny... Simple PS The current generation of Plasmas don't have any burn in factor ( or very little). They have a vestigial artifact of burn-in called Image Retention, meaning when the screen goes black you might see a slight ghost of a still image for a few seconds. As soon as an image returns to the screen, the image retention disappears... forever. Non-issue. Last edited by Kayne314; 12-03-2007 at 07:34 AM. Reason: wrong model number |

I had a 52" D92 series Sharp LCD for about a month until I returned it for a Panny plasma, and I am so happy I did. The sharp had banding, and as much as the blacks were dark, I found that they would crush as compared to my panny or my dads xbr4. Matter of opinion really.
Oh and plus, the Sony do true 120hz motion 5:5, whereas the sharps advertize that they do but really only uprez 60hz to 120hz and dont do 5:5. |
