Default How long before you would buy movies from Paramount/Dreamworks?

We all know that Paramount/Dreamworks went HD DVD exclusive because of a bribe. But if they went neutral or blu exclusive how long would it be before you'd buy movies from them?

About 10 minutes.

I would feel dirty afterwards though.

If it's a movie I want, right away! If it's a movie I don't care about, I'll wait until there's one I do!

If it's a movie I want, I'd buy it right away. Why deprive myself?

As soon as I can get it.
The fact that the Blu version will outsell any DUD tile instantly is enough of an industry in your face to Paramount.

Default Please add 5th option in the poll

There needs to be a 5th option in the poll:

-Not until the movies are remastered to "Blu-Ray" specs (clean high bitrate video transfers + lossless audio).

And that 5th option would be my answer. I would never buy HD DVD releases rebadged as Blu-Ray. No lossless, no $$$.

For now, I abstained from voting because, for me, the passage of time is irrelevant. The actual effort in releasing superior movie releases (both with pristine video and lossless audio) is the ONLY thing that counts in my book. If they're going to be lazy, they will not get my $$$.

Bought Transformers on HD PPV and saved it to my dvr, now I never need Hd-Dvd. Maybe buy it on Blu-ray when they come back.

What are these Hd-dvd fanboys going to do when Blu-ray wins, will they be hypocrites and adopt Blu-ray?

I would buy as soon as they came back.

I don't blame them at all for what they did. $150 Million is big bux for starving studios. In fact,.. I would go HD DUD exclusive for 18 months for only 1 Million. It would be a long 18 months but when it was over I could buy the entire Blu Ray catalog!

It needlessly pro-longed the war and made a lot more people into suckers because they decided to buy the HD DUD crap. But,.. the end result will be the same. They will be back and I will be buying them.

I sort of agree with unreal1080p. I don't think I'd be eager to support Paramount if they just went neutral. I think I'd be inclined to wait until they were exclusive Blu. I think that's the most likely scenario anyways.

WB -> exclusive Blu then Universal -> neutral then Universal Blu - > Paramount -> Blu when HD-DVD is dead 2009.

I didn't read your post to realize it was a hypothetical if they repented today. I would change my vote to right away if I could.

It all depends on what they include on the disc. I wouldn't buy Transformers because of the lack of lossless audio. Just like I don't buy WB movies with DD 5.1 only. I've been a movie fan for a long time and 2 things are important to me, picture and audio. The best I'll do is rent their movies

I don't think it is worth 'punishing' the studio.

I never bought much of any of their stuff anyways - any release will have to stand on its own merit... regardless of studio.

Oddly enough, there are bluray releases of paramount titles over here in Europe due to rights being in Blu exclusive studios. But for the rest of the titles' availability, sure if they go neutral and I see something that I would like to get my hands on, I would get it.
Good sales on the Blu side would show them their mistake of being Red exclusive IMO
