Default PS3 now on network - a lesson and a question

I just installed a wireless router last weekend so my PS3 is finally online.

I had one glitch I want to describe in case it can help others: at first the PS3 could detect my network, but was unable to talk to it. After some goofing around I tried changing my router's encryption scheme from WPA to WEP and boom, had the PS3 on in seconds. I let it go ahead and download and install the latest firmware update. Then I switched back to WPA encryption and the PS3 is online no problem.

The question:

I moseyed over to the PS3 homepage, and noticed some add-ons, including one for GHIII that interests me. However nothing happens when I click on them...

I haven't yet registered on the PS3 network, could that be why I cant get at the add-ons?

I also ran into memory errors when trying to surf the web a bit just for fun. I ejected the game disc that was in the machine to free up memory but that still didn't seem to totally fix the problem.
