Default Gasp, when would BD NOT be necessary?

I know the discussion has come up before about whether we BR fans still buy DVDs- I let folks know that basically I ONLY buy the Mystery Science 3000 releases on DVD (I'm a near-freak for that show) Any fans out there probably know about Cinematic Titanic http://cinematictitanic.com/wpmu/ , which is a new project from many of the old cast from mst3k. For any fellow mst3k fans, the outlook of mst/CT releases on BR looks grim, but BR would certainly not lend any extra quality to their stuff (unless they wanted to go w/ a bunch of extras on one disc) anyway - quote from Joel:

"If you haven’t signed up for the e-mail club list yet, here’s why you should: I’m stoked to announce our new vendor is going to be able to offer our feature length Cinematic Titanic shows in many formats. By “formats” I mean: Download to burn a DVD, Streaming, Regular DVD, and for a nominal-one-time-fee you can load your Cinematic Titanics onto any flash player, which includes I-pod and most mobile phones! You can pick your favorite! The only format we don’t have available is Blu-ray, and trust me, with the movies that we’ll be riffing on, you really don’t need it. "

...just wanted to post that, as that makes these guys even cooler in my eyes, to not even MENTION hddud............

Well I am glad that they think Blu-ray is the HD format of the future since they did not even mention HD DVD, but I am upset they think films are not worthy of a BD release.

I think that (as a longtime fan of the show) they meant that the movies they riff on are of such low quality, HD treatment would do absolutely nothing to improve the experience. If you've never seen the show, take my word for it most of the movies they featured were absolutely terrible PQ to begin w/ (esp. the B&W movies). the only "episode" I can even see getting BR treatment would be the Feature Film they did awhile back, riffing on the classic bad movie "This Island Earth"

Agreed that the quality is terrible...I think they could take advantage of blu-ray and just put a BUNCH of episodes on one disc though.

That is a good point, if they allow SD content on a BD, they can fit 25-50 GB of data on one BD disc!
Probably their entire library

...not their entire library...but maybe like a season per disc

There are SO many MST3K episodes...I didn't even realize until I started getting them from netflix...and finding more...and more...and more.
