Day 1 for me for sure. Hopefully Fox's HD master is a good one.

One of my favorite Fullers! Should look gorgeous. Please let Nightmare Alley, Where the Sidewalk Ends, Kiss of Death and Fallen Angel by on the way as well. There's no hurry for Black Widow though!

House of Bamboo!!!

A color noir set in Japan with cinematography in gorgeous CinemaScope by Joseph MacDonald (who also shot The Sand Pebbles, The Young Lions, Bigger Than Life, Mackenna's Gold, and Pickup on South Street, among many others).

House of Bamboo was, I believe, the first post-WWII American film to be shot entirely on location in Japan.

And best of all......directed by Samuel Fuller. His name alone in front of a film makes me weep tears of joy.

In my years of seeking out Fuller's movies, here is what I have learned: I suggest sitting down in front of your display with a fat stogie between your teeth, a glass of whiskey in your hand, and letting the world of Sam Fuller engulf you. Scratch the surface of his awesome two-fisted dialogue, gripping action, tough guys and even tougher dames, dramatic stories often revolving around combat and crime, and you will uncover remarkable social commentary. He was ahead of his time and his filmic voice spoke from a place of authority based on his own life's experiences. Few filmmakers could match him for the stylistic and narrative poetry that elevated his stories of the evil that men do. He takes us on a journey into the heart of darkness, into the absurdity and hubris accompanying the crash and burn of modern society, shows us the bitter depths of conflict and alienation, casts his camera's eye onto the lives of the lost and the damned wandering amid the wreckage, and makes us love it all. Fuller's frequent in-your-face attitude and carefully crafted subtlety in dealing with central themes such as the brutality of war and the corrosiveness of bigotry are like a fist slamming down on a table. He just might topple your whiskey bottle while making his point.

Good 1950's cinemascope Sam Fuller exotic location film noir (how many adjectives can I add!!!). I hope they can fix some of the color issues of the Fox dvd (weird color fluctuations, especially during the end scene at the rooftop amusement park where there are weird green flare ups from time to time).

I cannot wait for this. What with this and Pick Up On South Street coming in August (The latter via Eureka in Europe) its going to be a happy time.

I hope this means more Sam Fuller titles from Twilight Time. Lots of Fox and Sony titles there.

I'd love a Blu of Fuller's CRIMSON KIMONO. The unforgettable opening sequence looks great in Blu (as depicted in LOS ANGELES PLAYS ITSELF).

This will be a good summer for Sam Fuller fans, with Warner Archives' MOD of RUN OF THE ARROW (home video premiere) due on July 7th, and then the TT Blu-ray of HOUSE OF BAMBOO due in August.
